Female Weight Gain Triggers

1. Birth Control Pills Weight Gain - This may be a young woman's first experience with stubborn fat and losing the same 10 pounds over and over and over. Birth control pills or devices that alter your hormones can actually create lifelong weight issues but it's nothing an anti-estrogenic diet can't fix fast. 2. College Weight Gain - Also known as the Freshman 15 was declared a myth by a new research study but I can tell you from personal experience that it's very real since it happened to me and virtually every female in my dorm. The good news is losing it is easy! 3. Illness or Injury Weight Gain - This is often related to decreased activity and medications that wreak havoc on your hormones, your digestive system, and/or your sleep cycle. Initially an illness or injury may cause weight loss but once you get treatment and start taking meds the weight gain can be extreme. 4. Job Weight Gain - According to a CareerBuilder survey, " 49% of workers say they've gained weight at their current jobs, 28% of workers have gained more than 10 pounds at his or her present job, while an additional 13 % of employees have gained more than 20 pounds." CNN 5. Newlywed Spread - According to a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill study "the average newly married woman piles on about 9 extra pounds over five years compared with a single woman" Fitness Magazine. 6. Pregnancy & Post Pregnancy Weight Gain - According to experts the reason so many women struggle with this is they overestimate calorie needs during pregnancy and if nursing. They also tend to get less sleep than they need which can shift the body into a fat storing state (much like shift workers). I made both of these mistakes post pregnancy. 7. Perimenopause & Menopause Weight Gain - According to my continuing education course on both these topics this type of weight gain is actually optional because unbalanced hormones can become more balanced with a healthy diet, exercise, and certain medications. 8. Stress Weight Gain - Also called cortisol weight gain typically has more to do with emotional eating brought on by stressful life events such as relationship issues, financial trouble, job or loss of job related stress, family problems, etc. Fortunately the human body is designed to handle high levels of cortisol as long as you're eating a super healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising daily. BTW, I do know what this is like, having been through a depressing divorce and job loss simultaneously. Simple Solutions to Lose Weight & Avoid Weight Gain The solutions listed below are simple, unglamorous, and certainly not as exciting as pills, injections, and fancy medical procedures but they work all the time for any female of any age with any of the 8 causes of weight gain above. In fact they work faster and the only side effect is a happier healthier life. The trick to these solutions is having the courage to say no to all the other quick fixes vying for your attention.
