Weight loss is one of the most searched on Google as many people want to lose weight and lead a healthier life. Because of our current sedentary lifestyle, many are prone to obesity while many are already overweight. 1. Waking up late / sleeping too muchDo you sleep for too long? Then sorry to be a harbinger of the message but oversleeping can affect weight loss plan and can lead to weight gain. As per the research of the University of Glasgow, sleeping too long can make you gain weight. Ideally, more than nine hours is oversleeping and if you are sleeping less than seven hours then you are undersleeping which is also harmful. The study's lead researcher Dr. Jason Gill had stated, "In people with high genetic risk for obesity, sleeping for too short or too long a time, napping during the day, and shift work appears to have a fairly substantial adverse influence on body weight."

2. Skipping breakfastHave you been skipping your breakfast? Then you should not do the same as it messes up your metabolism and can disrupt your body's internal clock as well, thus leading to weight gain. Skipping breakfast can also lead to lethargy which can further lead to the craving of junk food later in the day. It has been linked to type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease among others. As per the study which was conducted by researchers from Tel Aviv University (TAU) and Hebrew University in Israel, breakfast consumption triggered the proper cyclic clock gene expression leading to improved glycaemic control. Daniela Jakubowicz of TAU said, "Proper meal timing - such as consuming breakfast before 9:30 am - could lead to an improvement of the entire metabolism of the body, facilitate weight loss, and delay complications associated with type 2 diabetes and other age-related disorders."

3. No MeditationDid you know the early meditation session can actually help to shed extra pounds? Yes, deep respiration and mindfulness meditation can help weight watchers as it can reduce stress hormone called Cortisol. If this hormone is out of balance, the same can lead to extended appetite and weight gain. So, instead of getting up in the morning and checking emails and social media handles which can instantly affect your mood, try to indulge in meditation in the morning.

4. No stretchingYou must have heard about stretching exercises we do during warm-up and cool-down sessions to reduce aches and injuries. However, stretching for a few minutes in the morning can help to lose love handles and extra fats. So, if you don't have time for intense cardio workouts, some stretching exercises for few minutes can be helpful. They will improve your metabolism, blood circulation, and even help in muscle building. Stretching and yoga poses can burn fat if practiced regularly. So, start your day with some stretching exercises. Some of the stretches that you can do are The Cobra pose, Seated Twist The Bridge, Side LungeInner Thigh StretchTricep Stretch, Side Bends, and The Bow among others.

5. Not drinking waterBefore you drink, your cuppa of caffeine, try to start your day with a few ounces of room temperature water. This will not only maintain balance in the body but also help you to avoid overeating throughout the day as it is an appetite suppressant. For the unversed, hydration plays a key role in weight loss by burning calories, aiding digestion, by removing toxins from our body and by helping in better workout among others. As per the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) in the United States, adult women should include 2,700 mL/day while adult men should drink 3,700 mL/day. Again the requirement varies as per activity level, age, body size, humidity and health among others.

Water weight-loss diet: How it works and steps to follow – Times Now

It is no myth. You can lose weight by using drinking water as a method of calibrating your diet.

The reasons are simple. Drinking water boosts metabolism and suppresses appetite. One does not misread signals of hunger as ones for hunger.

Also, when you drink enough water, the body stops the process of water retention - or withholding excess water in the body. That, in turn, causes weigh-loss.

But there is a method to follow in this. We will not suggest you skip meals and drink water instead. We shall suggest no drastic methods at all. Just how to use water intake wisely to lose excess body weight.

What this does is boosts your metabolism. How? When you drink that icy cold water. your body has to struggle extra hard to warm it up to bring it to the rest of the body's temperature. In the process, it ends up working harder and losing calories.

4. Now burn the calories outAs a vital nutrient to the life of every cell, water is also a carrier of nutrients to the entire body. The carbohydrates and proteins that our bodies use as food are metabolised and transported by water in the bloodstream and it also lubricates the joints. Now that water will help prevent muscle cramps and keep your joints lubricated, you can really slog it out at the gym. Talk to your certified trainer and get a programme that is safe and designed for you.

5. Make sure your water intake stays goodFind ways to keep your water intake high, as much as your doctor will permit you if you have a medical condition. Experts say water requirement varies according to weight. Every kilogram in your body-weight warrants about 0.033 ml of water. A simple way to put this would be dividing one's weight by 30. That many litres of water you will require in a day. Say you weigh 60 kg. Then your body requires a minimum of two litres water. If you are 80, then make that 2.600 litres that is 2600 ml minimum. If one is 90 kilos in weight, he/she straightaway requires 3 litres of water in a day to flush out the toxins.

Personal trainers having to adjust to social distancing – Picayune Item – Picayune Item

Personal trainers are used to having hands on contact with their clients, but with the closure of gyms and the implementation of social distancing and shelter-in-place orders they have to adapt.

Brynn Al-Jabi had been working at gyms giving Zumba classes and helping with boot camps before she got her certification to be a personal trainer two months ago.

Now shes helping the Fitness Depot in Picayune keep its clients engaged with videos on proper workout techniques and exercise ideas.

Just recently I was contacted by Fitness Depot gyms. Ive been working with them and keeping their members engaged on social media. Were also doing Zoom workouts where members get a Zoom ID and work out with us, Al-Jabi said.

The virtual group workouts are beneficial because it keeps clients active, but they come with a drawback.

Al-Jabi said personal training involves a lot of contact so that trainers can correct their clients position or form.

However, now with sessions being held online, the trainers lose that ability to make sure those working out are doing it correctly and safely.

Its harder to correct form, especially if youre doing stuff through a computer and you cant put your hands on them, Al-Jabi said.

Not only do the communal workouts serve a purpose physically, but they can also boost metal health as well.

Al-Jabi said working out together gives people a sense of community, and while the virtual workouts help, its not the same as doing them in person.

You get to know people on a deeper level (in person) than you do when youre on a computer or phone. Thats the biggest challenge of doing online coaching, but its still very rewarding to still see people reaching goals, doing workouts and having a good time, Al-Jabi said.

Business models have to adapt and change their routines due to the COVID-19 pandemic and personal trainers are one of the many groups wondering how to progress.

Al-Jabi said post-pandemic there will still be plenty of online tutorials going out from trainers, but she thinks the face to face workouts will still be the main source of exercise for trainers and their clients.

The majority of trainers have been forced to do the online coaching thing. It just depends on how it goes, but with me itll stick. I do think people miss personal connection they get (in person), Al-Jabi said.

Al-Jabi got into the business to help people reach their goals. The financial aspect doesnt drive her.

Her inspiration is more about assisting others on their journey to weight loss and acceptance with themselves.

I know what it feels like to go through the ups and downs of trying to figure out the best way to get fit and lose weight. Its frustrating. (I do it) for personal connection and the need I feel to help people get to their goals, Al-Jabi said.

But the nutrition team at Consumer Reports suggests ditching the hype once and for all and has some good advice to help us make better choices at mealtime.

What does ultra-processed mean?

Lets start with peanuts straight from the shell; theyre pretty good for you.

And if you turn them into fresh peanut butter, theyre still pretty good for you.

But with chicken sausage, youre heading into the processed zone.

Nuggets, which are often breaded, battered, and fried, are you guessed it ultra-processed.

A lot of ultra-processed foods are high in saturated fat, added sugar, sodium, and refined starches.

They can also have added flavors, preservatives, and stabilizers.

Nutrition experts at Consumer Reports say that research even suggests that the mashup ofingredients in ultra-processed foods may cause disruption in the hormones that controlhunger,encouraging overeating.

Just one more reason to stick to fruit, vegetables, and other whole foods you typically find if you shop the perimeter of a supermarket!

So keep it closer to wholeto make it more wholesome.

A STUDENT has shed nearly half their body weight to be named Slimming Worlds Young Slimmer of the Year 2020.

Holly Bolton, 18, weighed over 18st when she decided to take action to reduce her weight and shes now around 10st.

Brentwood-based Holly has struggled with her weight since she was 12 years old, and said doctors started noticing her weight was becoming an issue.

She was referred to a dietitian, and said: "It wasnt a nice experience at all I had hospital appointments which I found really traumatic.

At 12 I was told I wouldnt be able lose the weight without surgery, which is quite a lot to process at such a young age.

She said the medical warnings did not spur her on to shed the pounds, and actually had the opposite effect as she felt ashamed and sought comfort in food.

Holly added: It came at a time when I was being badly bullied at school as well, so it was all just too much. I couldnt see how I would ever lose weight.

The student turned to a carefully controlled Slimming World diet, and now is a size 8 with a passion for exercise and a new-found confidence.

She said she previously would avoid physical activity as it left her out of breath after a few minutes, but now she loves challenging herself.

She said: I started going to the gym which is such a big thing for me even having the confidence to walk into a gym is something I never could have done when I weighed 18st.

WHAT IS THE SLIMMING WORLD DIET?

Slimming World is based on something called Food Optimising, which is a list of "Syn-Free" foods that can be eaten in unlimited amounts.

The idea is that in order to shed body fat, you've got to swap high-fat for low-fat foods that are naturally filling.

Where Is Erica Wall From My 600-lb Life Now in 2020? – The Cinemaholic

My 600-lb Life is an amazing reality TV series that documents the year-long journey individuals go through to turn their lives around. Each individual who appears on the show weighs about 600 lbs and struggles with food addiction and weight gain. Desperate to lose weight and to live happy and normal lives, they seek medical help from Iranian-American surgeon Younan Nowzaradan or Dr. Now in Houston. The individuals, with the guidance of Dr. Now and a strict diet, will have to try and lose weight on their own, before they can get surgery to assist their weight loss further.

We were first introduced to then 44-year-old Calfornia native Erica Wall in season 5 of the TLC original. Erica feared dying the same way she lived her entire life, alone and just surrounded by food. So, at 661 lbs, she decided to go to Houston and lose weight so that she could live long and healthy.

Her story for how she gained so much weight is a dark and tragic one. She grew up eating home-cooked food consisting of a lot of fried chicken that made her weight shoot up to 200 lbs before she was a teenager. As a result, she was bullied and fat-shamed by her school mates and her family. They would say things and call me names, but nothing would hurt as much as when my father would tease me, Erica said. He would say some really hurtful things. He always said, What happened to my beautiful little girl? She went to sleep one night, and she woke up Godzilla.'

When she was 16 and weighed 300 lbs, her father forced her to get her stomach stapled, but she was raped a year later, which triggered emotional eating. Within the next five years, her staples were redundant. The worst of it was when Erica was 42. Her mother was on life support, but because of her weight, Erica couldnt make it to the hospital to say her final goodbye before she passed away. This caused her to find comfort in food and binge-eat further, which led her to gain 200 pounds in 2 years.

And, at the age of 44, she sought the help of her siblings to travel to Houston and meet Dr. Now.

After her initial troubles and adjustments, Erica Wall was sticking to the diet and exercise recommended for her, making quite a headway in her weight loss journey to get the surgery she wanted. But, things started spiraling when her boyfriend Jimmy broke up with her during her time in the program.

After the break-up, she ate more, didnt exercise, and started gaining weight again. Fortunately, she was able to control herself and get gastric bypass surgery. Dr. Now had to pause several times during the surgery to take out the rough staples in her so that they wont cause her any problems later on or affect her recovery.

In her year-long journey that was documented for the show, Erica wall lost a total of 190 lbs. In 2018, in a Where Are They Now? episode, she revealed that she had lost 100 pounds more and had started to go to therapy to come to terms with everything that has happened to her.

According to her Facebook, it does look like she has rekindled her romance with Jimmy. Although all her posts that include him are more than two years old, Erica is active on her social media today and can be seen posting motivational quotes. So the fact that she hasnt removed those pictures with Jimmy makes us think that the two are still together.

Erica also hasnt updated her profile picture since the end of 2017 or posted about her weight loss progress in a prominent manner. But she did upload the following images in December 2019, which show that she has indeed made further progress in her weight and seem to be living and enjoying life to the full.

Its no secret that apps can turn your phone into a valuable tool for health and fitness. But with hundreds of thousands available, finding a good one can seem daunting.

It doesnt have to be.

Choosing an app does need to involve more than clicking and downloading, experts say. But you can take steps to improve the odds of finding something safe and helpful. You just need to keep in mind one factor that cant be unlocked online: self-motivation.

If youve never explored the world of apps, you might not know what youre missing. Dr. John Higgins, a sports cardiologist at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston, said they can be particularly good at motivating people to get up and move.

Higgins, who wrote a paper evaluating apps for The American Journal of Medicine, said they also can help people eat right and learn about specific diseases. When synced with a wearable monitor or tracker, they can improve exercise routines and give people valuable data to share with their doctor.

For kids, he said, apps can teach good habits. For older adults, they can help monitor medications, provide brain training and help them avoid things that we know are unhealthy for them, you know, like sitting and surfing the web or watching movies all day.

Studies have shown apps can be great at helping people lose weight, especially by allowing people to monitor what they eat, said Lora Burke, a professor of nursing and epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh.

Burke, who led the writing of a 2015 American Heart Association report that evaluated app technology, said the information provided by a food-tracking app can be an eye-opener. Everybody thinks theyre eating less than they are, she said. Seeing calories counted and graphed can leave new users amazed.

Such apps work, Burke said, because better health starts with behavioral change. And self-monitoring is at the core of that change.

The person needs to become aware of their behavior and what could be improved, she said. And then they need to monitor their behavior to see how its changing.

And here is the trick to making any app work, she said: It is only helpful if you use it.

It doesnt make you exercise, she said. It just tells you if youve done 2,000 steps or youve done 12,000 steps. Youre the one who has to do it.

People also need to use caution when selecting one. The Food and Drug Administration considers mobile apps aimed at encouraging a healthy lifestyle to be generally outside the scope of its regulation. Some experts have raised concerns about the way apps share personal data.

Others question their safety. Researchers found dozens of examples of apps gone bad for a review in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. Farah Magrabi, associate professor at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, was senior author on that 2019 study.

The most egregious errors were those that harmed patients, she said. For example, one app that was supposed to support women undergoing breast cancer surgery was found to increase anxiety and depression. Another intended to reduce alcohol consumption actually increased heavy drinking. The review also found a melanoma app that gave incorrect diagnoses and a bipolar disorder app that wrongly advised patients to take a hard shot of liquor an hour before bed.

To protect yourself, Magrabi said, dont rely on ratings. Studies have shown that app ratings are not correlated with quality or safety.

Instead, she said, stick to apps from or approved by credible sources such as health care providers, health organizations or government agencies. (Britains National Health Service has such a list at nhs.uk/apps-library/.)

What else can help? Check to see how fresh the app is. A 2019 BMJ study found apps not updated within the past six months tended to raise more safety concerns.

Higgins suggested doing a little research about an apps creators. A diet app developed by a registered dietitian would be more useful than one developed by someone whos not, he said.

Burke said anyone syncing an app to a device thats being used to guide treatment, such as a blood pressure monitor, should have that device examined for accuracy by a healthcare professional.

With fitness trackers and weight loss apps, she said, stick with known brands that have been around a while.

Burke and Higgins both said taking an app for a test drive to find out whether it fits your needs can help you find a good match. Many offer trial versions.

Apps, Burke said, can be friendly buddies and little coaches. But youll need commitment.

Tanya Winfield on the Challenge of Winning Big by Losing Big VIDEO – Eurweb.com

*Almost anyone who has watched the OWN Networks Ready For Love (Season 2) and NBCs The Biggest Loser (Season 15) has seen the bodies of Tanya Winfield, Brent Nahshon, and Darin The Damn Trainer McClary.

Nahshon and McClary seemed to bedazzle the audience with their chiseled bodies as they entered a quest for love on the OWN network. On the other hand, Winfield impressed viewers of The Biggest Loser by losing 90 pounds and winning them over.

During Season 15, Winfields emotional breakthrough with her trainer became known as the most inspiring moment in The Biggest Losers history. Moreover, people connected to Winfield and she was often referred to as the peoples champ.

Winfield has teamed up with Nahshon and McClary so they can help others through a project they launched called the Biggest Loser Challenge.

I spoke with Winfield and Nahshon about the challenge they are actively involved in to help people to lose weight.

Winfields background is one of the driving forces in every endeavor she makes. She says that she had a very rough childhood growing up. Winfield says that she was a teenage mom.

She credits overcoming her early challenges, which included having an abusive mother to her grandmother.

I had a grandmother that was so resilient and amazing like so many grandmothers and she really did give me a sense of self and a sense of win is in my nameand so she always told me thatwin is in your name you have no choice but to win. Its part of who you are.

Winfield says she took those words to heart. By the time she was 18, Winfield had begun a path to success, climbing the corporate ranks in Fortune 500 companies. Then in her early twenties, she began opening restaurants.

Winfield says that she had a will to want to succeed and that she built and empire that led to her earning her first million [dollars] by age 35.

I became very successful and started winning at a young age.

Her appearance on the The Biggest Loser was yet another win because she beat out more than 250,000 other contestants and she became one of the six finalists. Still, Winfield says going on the show was out of character for her.

That really was proof of my desperation at that time.

I had gained so much weightand I was desperate. I needed help and The Biggest Loserit saved my life

I was always very confident in the areas of businessin the areas ofhaving a career and making money and things of that nature but I was really never confident in my physical self did not know what I could achieve in my physical self so The Biggest Loser for me was a stretch.

Winfield always considered herself a private person, and never saw herself as an athlete, so she says going on national TV to do something that amazing really took me out of my character.

Winfield talks about how being on The Biggest Loser helped her shed physical pounds and emotional baggage that she didnt even know [she] had.

After being a contestant, she gave motivational speeches because she wanted to help everyone. People began asking her if she had something online that could help them, so Winfield set out to create a program.

She wanted a program that was affordable that could impact the masses. She also wanted to create a program with a team of individuals with like-minded spiritspeople that really wanted to help people win. People that wanted to help people live.

When she met with Darin McClary and Brent [Nahshon] from Oprah Winfreys show, Ready to Love she realized that she had been waiting on these guys. After doing a lot of research and interviewing several people, Winfield established the Biggest Loser Challenge with McClary and Nahshon. Together they provide an online program that includes workout videos at all levels that allow people to work out at the times that suit them best. There is a nutrition component and participants also have access to Winfield, McClary, and Nahshon via social media platforms as well as one-on-one consulting.

Winfield, McClary, and Nahshon decided to keep the challenge to 50 participants at a time, but expanded the program to others due to the COVID-19 crisis which prevents almost everyone from venturing out to a gym.

In my video interview (below), Winfield elaborates on the variety of success that participants have been experiencing. Going beyond weight loss, Winfield talks about what blows [her] mind with the health and family transformation the program is bringing about.

Both Winfield and Nahshon, who also interviewed with me, gave advice about coping through the current COVID crisis. One of the poignant points Winfield makes is how much control people actually do have during the crisis. Nahshon talks to people about self-reflection and visiting the higher self.
