Tips to lose weight that you can simply ignore – NewsDio

A look at the Internet, and we can guarantee that it is full of endless tips on weight loss, as it is one of the most common things that people who want to be healthier often look for. Unfortunately, while many of these weight loss tips can be trusted because they are tried and tested, not all of them are created equal, and of course there are plenty of these that you can simply ignore because they are misleading, downright harmful or even just ineffective at most. But don't worry, we did all the work for you so you can focus on effective and recommended weight loss tips. Here's what to avoid: don't weigh yourself every day While it seems that not weighing yourself every day is effective (since various factors can cause it to fluctuate from time to time), studies show that people who weigh themselves every days consume less calories and lose more body weight. As such, being self-aware in doing this can provide responsibility and can help you lose more weight. Always eat breakfast, even if you are not hungryThis is simply not true as numerous studies have shown that eating or skipping breakfast has very little effect on our weight. In fact, skipping it can even lead to more weight loss because fewer calories are consumed. And while everyone is different, skipping breakfast can also be a form of intermittent fasting, which means some people find it effective.Juice cleanings It's easy to see why they are popular as they are supposedly natural and healthy. However, a major problem is that cleaning the juice only does that and doesn't help you in other aspects of weight loss, like the type of eating habits you need to do. Stay away from this, folks. Focus on cardio This makes sense since cardio benefits your stress levels and reduces your stress. However, the best advice for losing weight is to maintain muscle mass while losing weight and combine cardio with strength training. Avoid Fatty Foods Despite the unpopular opinion, not all fats are bad for your health because there are many foods that are naturally high in fat (like nuts, coconut, and avocados) that can help you lose weight. Obesity can occur due to genetics, family history, the environment, and medical conditions, among other reasons that affect body weight. Pixabay. What is considered obese and why it doesn’t always mean poor health – Insider – INSIDER

From 1999-2000, an estimated 30.5% of Americans were obese. By 2017-2018, that number had risen to 42.5%, costing those who are obese roughly $1,429 more in healthcare expenses than people of a normal weight, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since obesity is on the rise and related to so many negative health effects, it's important that doctors can easily define obesity in order to help patients take control of their health.

"We want to come up with a universal way of defining obesity, because different cultures define it differently," says Mir Ali, MD, bariatric surgeon and medical director of MemorialCare Surgical Weight Loss Center at Orange Coast Medical Center. "So the thing we have that isn't the most accurate, but at least it's a common reference point, is the body mass index (BMI)."

BMI is the most standard way for doctors and patients to determine if someone is overweight or obese. It's calculated with a formula that takes into account your height and weight and there are many online BMI calculators you can use to easily calculate your own BMI. Here's what you need to know about BMI, it's role in determining obesity, and why it's not always the best tool.

According to the CDC, a BMI of 25.0 to 29.9 is considered overweight, and a BMI of 30 or above is obese. Additionally, there are three subcategories, or classes, of obesity based on BMI. According to the CDC, Class 1 is a BMI of 30 to 35, Class 2 is a BMI of 35 to 40, and Class 3 is a BMI of 40 or higher.

"Someone with a BMI of 40 has a two to three times greater risk of developing obesity related diseases [than someone with a healthy BMI]," says Ali, adding that these classes are also important to help doctors decide what kind of treatment is necessary.

If you have a BMI greater than 40, then you could qualify for bariatric surgery. Whereas, if you have a BMI between 30 and 40 and have struggled to lose weight through diet and exercise, your doctor may prescribe a diet pill to aid weight loss.

However, BMI is not a be all end all to measure obesity. For example, a high BMI doesn't always mean obesity. "The BMI calculation doesn't take into account anybody's body composition, and that can affect how healthy they are. A 300-pound bodybuilder with 5% body fat [may be] healthy, but if you plug him into the BMI formula, he [will] come out obese," says Ali.

Aside from BMI, there are a few other more accurate ways to measure obesity and the risk of obesity-related disease:

While this one is very accurate, Ali says it isn't readily available to the general public, and it's expensive. The test usually isn't offered at typical X-Ray/imaging centers, and most people don't actually require this precise level of accuracy to make treatment choices.

Being obese does not automatically mean you are unhealthy. The importance of exercise in obese people has been extensively researched.

For example, a study published in BMC Obesity in 2018, showed that somebody who is severely obese but very active can be as healthy as someone who is moderately obese and does not exercise very much. Additionally, a 2017 study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology concluded that obese people who regularly worked out had less risk of cardiovascular disease than obese people who were inactive.

"The less active you are as an obese person, the more likely you'll be to develop health issues," says Ali. "Activity helps keep your cardiovascular health strong, helps to reduce your risk of degenerative changes in the joints, and other health issues, so activity is important."

Fitness is so important for health because it helps prevent the build-up of visceral fat, which lies beneath the abdominal muscles surrounding vital organs like the liver, intestines, and stomach. Visceral fat is one of the biggest risk factors in obese people for developing health problems.

If you are obese or think you may be obese, it's important to keep active and eat healthily to avoid the complications that can be caused by obesity. Speak to your doctor or an obesity specialist to get on the right track.

Mum weighing 110kg reveals 3 steps that led to 45kg weight loss | Photo – NEWS.com.au

Welcome to You Got This, news.com.aus weekly slice of fitness inspiration featuring tips and advice from real women whove experienced it all.

At 110kg, Sophie Roberts never thought she was capable of leading a healthy lifestyle until she stuck by three steps that would ultimately change her life.

The Sydney mum was overweight most of her life and after the birth of her first child in 2016, her motivation and confidence would plummet, with her weight also hitting an all-time high.

I was embarrassed of how I looked that I hated clothes shopping. I was afraid to go into shops that only stocked regular sized clothes, Ms Roberts told news.com.au.

I would never willingly be in a full length photo, and was a pro at taking high-angle selfies to try to disguise how big I really was.

In fact, the new mum had even refused to take photos of herself with her newborn baby at the time.

I spent so much money on take away food and avoided outdoor activities or anything active, she said.

Her diet consisted of oversized portions of curry, rice or spaghetti, unforgiving amounts of vegemite, ham and cheese toasties and also leftover dinner meals.

Serving sizes were my biggest downfall, she added.

Ms Roberts, previously a registered nurse, explained that she missed out on so much due to her unhealthy lifestyle and it wasnt until she refused to be sitting on the sidelines when everything changed.

I avoided going out clubbing with my friends when I was younger because I was worried that I wouldnt be let into the club because of my size, she said.

I also avoided people from my past because I didnt want them to see how big Id gotten.

The 31-year-old had also avoided swimming and going to the beach or places that involved more than 100m of walking because Id get puffed and sweaty.

I missed out on so much, Ms Roberts said.

TURNING POINT 3 STEPS TO MUMS 45KG WEIGHT LOSS

The moment Ms Roberts decided to turn her life around was when she wanted to lose weight and be fit, more than she wanted to continue her unhealthy lifestyle.

Its a lot easier than I ever thought, Ms Roberts said.

The mother-of-two went on to lose 45kg over three years and has since maintained her healthy lifestyle.

When she began her transformation with The Healthy Mummy she was consuming 2100 calories before dropping down to 1600 after achieving her desired weight of 62kg.

She said it comes down to three main steps calorie counting, consistency and planning.

The number one thing I found was counting calories and not restricting yourself to 1200 calories a day as it isnt sustainable, but having enough to fuel your body and having the nutrients to function.

She combined that with walking, light at-home exercises through the programs app and also training sessions at her local Fernwood gym.

Ms Roberts said consistency and planning ahead, which she does every Sunday, is also key to her success.

Its about making health and fitness a part of your lifestyle you cant be motivated every single day, but if you have those habits, they will carry you through until that motivation comes back.

You will find her sparing about 20 minutes at the end of each week to meal plan, budget and customise her groceries to accommodate to both her and her familys needs.

Just start. Make small changes, like just replace one meal a day with a healthier option and slowly build on those changes, Ms Roberts advised.

HOW SARAHS 45KG TRANSFORMATION CHANGED HER LIFE

Ms Roberts said her whole perspective on life has changed.

I know how to make healthy choices most days and how to enjoy occasional treats and meals without feeling guilty, she said.

I feel so much more confident in myself. The clothes that I choose to wear, the places I go, even the way I interact with others.

But it wasnt an easy mental journey, Ms Roberts admitted.

Changing my mindset from feeling like I was missing out on the lifestyle that I had previously which was so damaging, and learning to appreciate all the things I am gaining from living a healthy life, she said about challenges during her transformation.

Ms Roberts continues to stick to her daily calorie allowance, which she says gives her body plenty of energy while maintaining a calorie deficit.

Thats the key to weight loss. Its science. I use the Healthy Mummy App to

track all my food, she said.

I exercise two to three times a week with a mix of cardio and weights. I love walking and interval running, and also HIIT to keep things interesting.

Today, when she looks in the mirror, she sees a strong woman who has worked hard to achieve her dreams, a woman who loves herself enough to make herself a priority.

Creating healthy habits are what will get you to your goal and beyond, Ms Roberts said. Youre not going to feel motivated every day, but if you have those habits in place, you can keep going through the motions and getting closer to your goals.

Be your own motivation. You can achieve whatever you want to.

How to measure your weight loss without a weighing scale – The Star Online

Humans are obsessed with their weight. Were always looking for ways to lose it.

Ironically, its the ones that are slim and healthy-looking who ask me for weight loss tips.

Does dropping one or two kilogrammes really make a difference to your overall health, or is it purely for aesthetic purposes?

The overweight ones are not too bothered. Not until they are diagnosed with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension or high cholesterol, that is. Then they spring into action.

These days, even animals are put on a diet because like their owners, they lack exercise and have joined the worlds growing girths club.

They eat our food scraps and enjoy air-conditioned living.

A pet lover friend puts her poodle in a special dog seat and takes him for a ride around town. In the park, his paws are covered with booties to protect and keep them clean.

This pooch is so pampered that when the owner is at work, he listens to recorded music, interspersed with the owners voice (to eliminate the feeling of loneliness).

After dinner, he gets his teeth flossed!

His only daily exercise is to walk from the couch to the bathroom a few times a day to take a pee break. By the way, his pampers are neatly laid out beside the toilet bowl!

No wonder the furry fella is fat, but charming nevertheless.

Last I heard, the vet has ordered him to exercise more so the friend is taking her four-legged companion on nightly walks.

To lose weight, you have to eat, poo and sleep well. Exercise is then added into the equation.

However, the scale isnt always the best way to measure your progress.

A lower number may boost your mood, but changing your body goes beyond this number.

And frequently weighing yourself may be discouraging as your water weight will always fluctuate.

But how can we measure weight loss without standing on the cold scale?

Well, here are some ways to indicate if youve gained or lost weight without using the weighing scale.

Do your clothes fit well?

The easiest way to tell if youve lost weight is by looking at how your clothes fit.

Do they hang loose, are they bursting at the seams or is the zip on your pants unable to close? If your clothes have become looser, then youve definitely shed some weight.

If you are no longer able to button your shirt, then clearly, your belly has expanded.

But if you need a belt to hold your pants in place, thats progress.

However, when your muscle mass increases, your clothes may sometimes still feel snug, but the softer, fleshier parts of your body will feel hardened as muscles replace fat.

Feeling more comfortable in your clothes or going down a size is more important than stepping on the scale, as they are more accurate indications of fat loss.

There are those who prefer wearing baggy outfits to camouflage whats beneath.

Sorry, but this isnt going to help much in your weight loss journey.

Snap a weekly selfie

Im not a fan of selfies, but the majority of people are.

Take a fortnightly or weekly picture of yourself at several different angles to keep track of your progress.

Wear the same outfit and stand in the same place every time.

Dont be discouraged if there are no drastic changes in the photographs. If youre doing everything right, the results will come in time.

After all, weight loss is a gradual process that doesnt happen overnight.

And dont believe people who tell you its possible to lose 5kg in a week. The faster you lose, the faster you will gain it back.

Measure your sleep

When youre expending extra energy working out and feeding yourself with better foods, youre more likely to get a good nights sleep.

Parents often tire their children out during the day so that they sleep better at night.

The same rule applies to everybody, no matter what age you are.

When your sleep goes down, your weight goes up. Sleep deprivation causes changes in hormones that regulate hunger and appetite.

Inadequate sleep increases the hunger hormone called ghrelin and decreases levels of the satiety/fullness hormone called leptin, which can lead to overeating.

The less you sleep, the more you tend to eat, as you stay awake for longer hours.

When you lack sleep, your brain cant make rational decisions, and youre also more likely to be impulsive and give in to junk food desires.

The better you sleep, the less the chances of weight gain.

There are many wearable devices in the market to track your sleep patterns, so try them out.

Get a measuring tape

Measuring your body parts can give you a rough estimate of where youve lost weight and how many inches have come off.Take out your old-fashioned measuring tape and measure the parts of your body you want to see change in.

It doesnt tell you whether youve lost fat or muscle (you need an equipment to measure your body composition for this), but its still a good starting point.

We all lose weight at different rates and some areas show faster results than others.

So, take out your old-fashioned tape and measure the areas you want to see change, such as the waist, arms, thighs, buttocks and chest.

Do this every two weeks and note the difference.

Believe it or not, one student told me she had lost weight on her ankles because all her leggings were now loose around the ankles and it wasnt because she put them in the washer!

Ive heard of people being able to slip into their wedding bands again after they got trimmer, but ankle weight loss is new to me!

Increased energy levels

With weight loss, you can tackle everyday tasks better.

Small efforts like getting in and out of the car, walking up a flight of steps or carrying the groceries up your apartment block become easier. Panting and puffing become things of the past.

All of these activities are deemed important because they deal with real life.

Yes, you enjoy living once more and feel empowered when your energy levels are high.

When you have increased energy levels throughout the day, it means your blood sugar levels are balanced.

Your diet or regular fitness routine could have contributed to this, but the scale will not reflect this.

A sharper mind

Many studies show that exercise boosts memory power.

As you shed weight, mental tasks become easier as you will be able to think clearer your attention span, concentration, planning and coordination all improve.

Naysayers might say that certain herbs can also increase memory power. They might, but they dont bring about other benefits.

Ultimately, get in tune with your body. Listen to it, treat it with care and it will reveal plenty of insights, besides serving you well.

Gauge how youre feeling instead of focusing on numbers on the scale.

You may have started your fitness journey for aesthetic reasons, but as you continue on your path to better health, you may begin to discover a new you.

And that new you wont become a slave to the scale.

Low carb foods that aren’t weight-loss friendly – The Navhind Times

Watch out, ladies. All that glitters is not gold and all that contains fewer carbs isntweight-loss friendly

When itcomes to altering your diet to lose weight, cutting down on carbohydrates isthe go-to approach for most people. Blame it on the hype around carbohydratesbeing energy powerhouses and raising your blood-sugar levels or simply on thefact that any unused energy from them is going to get stored as fat in thebody.

The result? High-protein-and-fat diets and low-carb dietsruling the charts. Now, cutting down on carbohydrates can definitely work toyour advantage. But youve got to understand the fact that eliminating thisfood group and refraining from complex carbs such as whole grains has aterrible downside.

Not only can it leave you fatigued and irritable, it caneven slow down your metabolism in the long run and give you constipation due tolack of fibre from whole grains.

Not to mention, relying on certain low-carb foods is notalways a good idea because some of them can actually make you gain weight. Hereare 5 foods you must stay clear of:

Coconut oil: Virgin, extra virgin, super-duper virginwhatever quality of coconut oil you might beconsuming after getting convinced by fitness influencers, can contribute toyour weight gain.

Shocked? Well, it may be touted as a weight-loss elixirdue to its appetite-curbing properties, but a tablespoon of this oil containsaround 120 calories. Now, if you consume it with all three of your meals, itsimply amounts to almost 360 extra calories.

Fancy salads: Abowl of salad does no harm, right? Well, what if that bowl of healthy,fibre-packed vegetables is topped with not-so-healthy dressings likemayonnaise, honey-mustard and Thousand Island, to name a few? The entirepurpose of eating a salad is ruined and how!

You might not realise it but even though these dressingscome with the promise of being low-calorie/fat-free, they contain a host ofharmful ingredients such as sodium and preservatives that can make you gainwater weight or simply slow down your metabolism if consumed in abundance overa long period of time.

Bulletproofcoffee: Coffee powder, unsalted butter, and a medium-chain triglyceride (MCT)oil blended together make for a perfect cup of bulletproof coffee that hastaken the fitness industry by storm.

The keto-friendly coffee has been proven to curb appetiteand make you feel more energetic. But, did you know that MCT oils are a type ofrefined oil and can very much trigger obesity, immune dysfunction, heartproblems, and even cancer?

Not to mention, the butter used isnt any less of an evilas it can raise your cholesterol levels, give you blood-pressure problems, andincrease the fat percentage in the body, contributing further to your weightgain.

Thats not it. Drinking this coffee can suppress yourappetite and you might be able to skip your meals because of it. This cansurely help you maintain your calorie deficit for weight loss. However, in thelong run skipping meals can slow down your metabolism and make you gain weight.

Processed chickenand meat: Surely eating chicken breast and lean meat can give you afull-fledged dose of protein, which can boost your metabolism, help buildmuscle mass, keep you satiated, and ultimately help you with weight loss.

However, if your chicken and meat is the processed, packaged kind that is readily available in the marketthen beware!

According to several studies, including the one publishedin the journal Cell Metabolism, consuming processed foods can lead to weightgain. Since these meats are high in salt, fats, preservatives, and certainsugars used during processing, they can make you crave for food and increaseyour overall caloric intake as a result.

Greek yoghurt:Now Greek yoghurt that is available in the market might claim to be nutritionallydense and great for your gut. However, the added artificial flavours and sugarscan make them your weight-loss enemy. So, make sure you read the food labelcarefully before consuming them and obviously, dont go overboard with itsconsumption.

Eating a Bigger Breakfast Could Mean More Weight Loss Here’s a 3-Day Meal Plan to Get Started – LIVESTRONG.COM

You're rushing out the door in the morning maybe you grab a granola bar, a cup of coffee or skip breakfast altogether. If that sounds like you, you're not alone. About 25 percent of adults regularly skip breakfast, according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

A big breakfast diet might help you lose more weight on the same amount of calories.

Whatever your reason for missing out on your morning meal lack of appetite, lack of time or perhaps you're a fan of intermittent fasting and plan to eat later in the day you may want to rethink your breakfast game plan, especially if you're trying to lose or even manage your weight.

When we eat significantly affects the thermogenic effect of food aka the increase in metabolism after eating according to a February 2020 study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

This effect, also called diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT), along with your basal metabolic rate (the number of calories your body needs at rest) and your level of physical activity determines how many calories you burn.

In this small clinical trial, researchers broke the subjects into two groups:

The researchers found that the big-breakfast group had a 2.5 times higher DIT compared to the big-dinner group. They also found that the big-dinner group had an increased appetite, specifically for sweets.

Did you know that keeping a food diary is one of the most effective ways to manage your weight? Download the MyPlate app to easily track calories, stay focused and achieve your goals!

This recent study adds to the growing body of research in support of eating a big breakfast and smaller dinner, especially when it comes to managing your weight.

A March 2013 clinical trial published in Obesity looked at how calories are distributed throughout the day and the affect this has on weight over the course of 12 weeks. Researchers in the study fed two groups of women a weight-loss diet of 1,400 calories, but one group of women received 700 calories for breakfast, 500 for lunch, and 200 for dinner, while the other received the reverse. After 12 weeks, the group that consumed more calories earlier in the day lost 2.5 times more weight 19 pounds versus the 8-pound average weight loss by the group who consumed calories later in the day.

Another small pilot study published August 2018 in Physiology & Behavior concluded that eating earlier in the day, according to our circadian rhythm, is beneficial for weight loss. This eight-week study had two groups, consuming two different conditions of calorie distribution throughout the day 50 percent at breakfast, 30 percent at lunch and 20 percent at dinner versus 20 percent at breakfast, 30 percent at lunch and 50 percent at dinner. The amount of weight loss was significantly greater for the group that consumed more calories earlier in the day, and they were also found to have better sleeping patterns.

Eating a heartier breakfast may mean you crave less sweets later on.

Credit: VeselovaElena/iStock/GettyImages

Now that you're convinced breakfast is a must and that you might want to eat a bigger breakfast and smaller dinner, here's a three-day meal plan to help get you started.

The studies mentioned above provided 50 to 70 percent of calories at breakfast and 10 to 20 percent of calories at dinner. This can be a big jump for most people, though, considering we currently eat our largest meals at dinner, then lunch, followed by breakfast, according to the USDA.

To make the change more manageable, this meal plan includes 40 percent of calories at breakfast, 40 percent at lunch and 20 percent at dinner. This plan will help you begin reversing the current trend, and perhaps the way you eat, by consuming a larger breakfast and smaller dinner.

Know the pros and cons of Dry Fasting as a way to lose weight – Times Now

Know the pros and cons of Dry Fasting as a way to lose weight  |  Photo Credit: Getty Images

New Delhi: Losing weight is important to reduce the risk of diseases, and to live a healthy, long life. However, it is also equally difficult to lose weight. Weight loss is a mixture of a healthy diet, more physical activity and exercise, and a healthy lifestyle in general. But the whole process takes a long time and an even longer period of perseverance to make it happen.

When we are offered short-cuts and easier ways to lose weight, we may fall into the trap. Fad diets, gym memberships, and some rather bizarre workouts have tried to lure people with the false promise of helping them lose weight easily and quickly.

Fasting is one popular diet pattern for losing weight. Intermittent fasting, or the 16:8/5:2 diet, is very popular among weight watchers. Studies have proven that intermittent fasting is a healthy way of losing weight, and is also effective. However, recently, new versions of the fasting diet, such as dryfasting have made their way to the diet world. Is dry fasting healthy and effective?

Dry fasting is also known as absolute fasting. It is a diet plan that restricts both food and liquids. On intermittent fasting, you are allowed to consume fluids or liquids like water, coffee, tea, etc. However, on the absolute fasting diet, during the fasting hours, you are not allowed to eat or drink anything.

The dry fasting method can be effective and have certain health benefits such as:

Dry fasting is an extreme form of a diet pattern. Dry fasting may have health benefits, but there are certain side effects and complications linked with the diet pattern.

While supporters claim that dry fasting can help with weight loss, adopting a well-balanceddietcan help you shed the pounds without the risk of side effects.

Brit builder, 25, died of internal bleeding hours after cut price 3,000 weight loss operation in Turk – The Sun

A YOUNG Brit builder tragically died 'of internal bleeding' just hours after his cut price 3,000 weight loss operation in Turkey.

Joe Thornley, 25, opted to undergo the drastic gastric sleeve surgery in the hope of slimming down from his 22st frame.

3

3

The two-hour procedure can cost up to 10,000 in the UK, but now his mum is warning others that the cheaper price tag abroad is "just not worth it".

Joe booked his appointment at Medicana Bahcelievler in Istanbul just weeks ahead of the procedure, but only told his family at the last minute.

Speaking the Daily Star, his mum Julie said: He told me the day before. I told him I couldnt stop him but that he didnt need it.

It was meant to be go in on the Monday and be back at home on the Friday.

Julie said she received a message from her sonafter the operation to say he was "in a lot of pain" and she recalled telling him to ask for painkillers.

Its just not worth it. I dont want another family to go through what weve been through.

And when she and her husband Michael, 57, did not hear from him for the next two days, they assumed he was recovering.

It was only when police turned up at Julies work in South Normanton, Derbys, that she was told the awful news that her son had died.

Now Julie is warning others to think twice before heading abroad for similar surgery.

She said: Its just not worth it. I dont want another family to go through what weve been through.

"He was a 25-year-old with his whole life ahead of him.

Now I cant stop thinking of all the other young people who want a butt lift or want something doing to their face. I hope anyone considering this reads our story and doesnt take it lightly.

Although adeath certificate in Turkey ruled Joe died from natural causes, a postmortem in Britain said the death was a result of internal bleeding after the surgery.

A sleeve gastrectomy is one of the three most common types of weight loss surgery.

It is where some of the stomach is removed, so you can't eat as much as you could before and you'll feel full sooner.

This is different to a gastric band, which is used to reduce the stomach's size, meaning you will feel full after eating a reduced amount of food.

The Medicana Bahcelievlers website outlines some risks of the procedure including bleeding, damage to other organs and anesthesia complications.

In Britain, the procedure issometimes available on the NHS- an investment doctors make becauseobesity costs our health service 4.2 BILLIONevery year.

But sometimes gastric surgeries come with complications.

One British mum suffered extreme complications after her gastric bypass surgery.

And another woman allegedly starved to death after struggling to eat after the operation.

What is a gastric bypass surgery?

GASTRIC bypass is one of the three most common types of weight loss (bariatric) surgery carried out in the UK. Its sometimes called a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

Gastric bypass works by making your stomach smaller and bypassing part of your intestines (bowels), so that you absorb fewer calories. It can help you lose weight if youre very overweight (morbidly obese).

This is different to a gastric band, which is used to reduce the stomach's size, meaning you will feel full after eating a reduced amount of food.

According to a study, the United Kingdom spends about 48 billion pounds a year dealing with health care and social causes related to obesity.

To qualify for a state-funded procedure, you have to be classed as "dangerously obese".

This could be a person who has a BMI of 40 or above, or a BMI of 35 coupled with other serious health conditions such a type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.

In private procedures, gastric bands cost between 5,000 and 8,000 - while gastric bypass surgery costs 9,500-15,000.

Weight loss surgery carries a small risk of complications.

Amanda Seales Criticized for Her Reaction to Loni Love Crying On ‘The Real’ But Some Fans Say It’s Karma – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Amanda Seales has only been on The Real for a couple of months, but shes already found herself in the center of many controversies.

The latest one came during the week of March 1 when she apparently improperly reacted to Loni Love crying over a sensitive subject. But some fans swept to Seales defense, saying that Love got what she deserved after allegedly doing something similar to her former co-host, Tamar Braxton.

The moment happened on the March 4 episode when Love started talking about Weight Watchers new weight loss program,myWW.

Let me tell yall, I did not know how to eat, she said. As her voice began to crack and tears streamed down her face, Seales looked startled.

Growing up in the projects, we just had to eat what we could. I know it sounds funny, but a lot of women in the African-American community, we dont know how to eat because we grew up that way, Love continued.

So Im trying to tell yall, thank you to WW, because we wanted to do this to help our brothers and sisters everybody, but I see yall. I see yall at my comedy shows and youre like, We need to get healthier, and thats the reason were doing this, she added. Its just to make yall aware of whats happening in the community. You can eat and not starve and you can still lose weight. Thats the reason were doing this.

Throughout her spiel, Seales awkwardly looked around the room with her eyes seemingly bugged out.

Fans rushed to social media platforms such as Twitter to react to the bit. While many people felt that Love deserved a little more empathy from Seales, others didnt feel bad, pointing out Loves reaction to Braxton talking about her insecurities in a 2015 episode of the show.

The hosts had been talking about their experiences with bullying when Braxton reflected on being called a muppet and how it affected her. When she dropped the word muppet, Love smiled and seemed to be fighting back a laugh.

So, of course, some people werent too bothered by this latest moment.

didnt Loni do this to Tamar when Tamar was crying about being called a muppet? one Twitter user wrote. I swear it always comes back.

Loni literally laughed at Tamar, havent liked her since. She down plays other peoples feelings all the time but wants sympathy when its her, another viewer tweeted.

Someone else wrote: I think Amanda shouldve corrected her facial expressions. But Loni wanting people to be understanding reminds me of when Tamar cried because of comments about her looking like a muppet. Lonis face definitely wasnt supportive. It only matters to people when it affects them.

But others claimed that they are two totally different situations.

This is NOT the same thing, one person declared. Tamar got called a muppet in retaliation for being a BULLY. Loni was addressing poverty and food inaccessibility under capitalism. Yall disgust me.

As the online conversation grew, Seales suggested that she was not trying to be shady or rude but that she was simply caught off guard when Love began to cry.

She liked a tweet from a fan that said: I think she was just surprised on where the cry came from. She has yet to directly comment and elaborate on her reaction.

Love has not said anything, either and neither has Braxton. Following her 2016 departure from The Real, Braxton immersed herself in her work. She moved on to a new show and hasnt really looked back since.
