Unfortunately in the world of health and fitness there is a lot of false information being conveyed to the masses. Gimmicks, quick fixes and sometimes just plain old bad or misinformation is being advertised.

Typically this is done to sell a product or program that promises an unrealistic result. Usually its something like get fit in five minutes or lose fat by using a particular machine or performing a certain exercise.

Most of the time its not a quick fix or a gimmick, but just inaccurate information that can set you up for burnout or injury.

Watch This ‘Skinny American’ Get Destroyed by the Russian Army Fitness Test – menshealth.com

YouTuber Brandon William tries a lot of fitness challenges which involve plenty of repetition over a month-long period, like doing 100 pullups every day, or practicing the One Punch Man workout. In his latest video, Brandon takes on a one-off physical challenge that is so intense it leaves him gasping for breath: the Russian Army fitness test.

This fitness test is no joke, comprising:

Brandon opts out of the fighting portion of the challenge, but throws himself fully into all of the other rounds, starting with the 3,000-meter run. He's allotted 12 minutes to complete the run, with 11 minutes generally deemed a "gold" score. "Personally I'm not a fan of running, I literally never run, so I'm not expecting the fastest to be honest," he says. He ends up taking more than 15 minutes to run 3,000 meters, which means this first round is a total fail. "That was horrible, that was awful," he says.

Next up is the 100-meter sprint, where the maximum permitted time is 13 seconds. Brandon fares better this time around, but still narrowly misses a passing score, finishing his run in 14 seconds. On a second attempt, he infinitesimally improves, with a time of 13:97. "These Russians are fast," he says.

But the running drills aren't over; he still has to take on the 10 x 10 suicides. He gets his first passing score here, completing all 10 in 23 seconds, which counts as a "great" time.

Moving onto the bodyweight exercises, Brandon is a lot more confident, as this is where he feels a lot more comfortable. In the pullup round, a passing score is 20 reps, while a gold score is 28. He comfortably passes this round with 23 pullups.

For the dips, a minimum of 30 reps is needed to pass: "This is going to be tough," he says. Sadly, this is another fail, as Brandon only manages 23 reps before maxing out. Next up are the full leg raises, where he achieves a minimal passing score of 12 reps. "It doesn't even hurt my core, it hurts my lats more than anything," he says.

In the pushup test, Brandon needs 60 reps just to pass, whereas a gold score would be 75. "That's a lot, especially after all the pullups, running, the leg raises," he says. To his delight, he cranks out 77 reps, smashing this round.

The final test requires him to bench press his bodyweight for a minimum of 10 reps. "I weigh 145 pounds, and I haven't benched in the longest time, since I normally only do bodyweight workouts," he says. "I don't know if I'm going to pass this one."

Brandon is ultimately able to reach 10 reps for a passing score (he doesn't go any further as he would need a spotter to do so safely), but unfortunately, his overall performance in the challenge means he will not be heading over to Russia for basic training any time soon.

The superstar singers multi-year partnership focuses on Howard University and nine other historically Black colleges and universities by providing digital memberships that would allow full access to fitness classes within the Peloton app, according to the exercise equipment company.

Im excited to partner with a company that helps people, young and old, be the best versions of themselves, in an innovative and adaptable way, Beyonc said in a statement. Im proud to celebrate the students at HBCUs with this donation, to encourage them to find and embrace their own wellness regimens.

As a part of Pelotons company pledge of anti-racism and Beyoncs commitment to HBCUs, the initiative is also striving to give cultural access to health and fitness communities by creating internships and other undergraduate levels of support.

Over time, we developed a series of classes that exclusively feature an artists catalog with everyone from Dolly Parton to Jennifer Lopez, said Dara Treseder, Pelotons head of global marketing and communications. Our members loved them. So, we started to think and talk about how we could build upon the series and make it even more impactful for our members and the larger world.

The other participating HBCUs are Bennett College, Clark Atlanta University, Grambling State University, Hampton University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, Spelman College, Texas Southern University and Wilberforce University.

Are Gyms Open on Veterans Day? Opening Hours For Planet Fitness, LA Fitness and Others – Newsweek

Federal holiday Veterans Day (11 November), honoring military veterans, falls on a Wednesday in 2020.

The public holiday usually sees non-essential federal government offices closed. Banks, post offices and some schools could also close their doors on Veterans Day, some restaurants might also be closed, but others may remain open to offer deals to those off work.

Some will be looking to see if they can get a workout or attend an exercise class before going back to the office. Read on for our list of gyms that are open on Veterans Day. Note: Gyms in cities and towns with coronavirus restrictions may not be open, despite similar gyms being otherwise open nationwide.

Planet Fitness: Planet Fitness will be open on Veterans Day in many locations but hours may be reduced. A representative from the Brooklyn gym told Newsweek it would be open between 7-1 p.m. The Shreveport, Louisiana Planet Fitness gym will remain open 24-hours, according to a representative, and the Seattle Aurora Ave gym will be open regular hours. Phone your local gym to check Veterans Day hours. Local coronavirus restrictions may apply.

LA Fitness: This national gym has 690+ fitness clubs in the U.S. and Canada. Normal hours will apply to most LA Fitness gyms on Veterans Day, but some may have reduced hourscall ahead to check your location before you visit, local coronavirus restrictions may apply.

24 Hour Fitness: This all-day and night gym will be open, and will be fully operational on Veterans Day, opening hours may change in towns and cities with COVID-restrictions.

Equinox Fitness: Most gyms will have regular hours across the nation, but some may have shorter hours. An Equinox representative told Newsweek the best way to get the updated hours is to download the Equinox app, which has all the current hours and holiday hour changes for each location. Locations with COVID rules in place may differ depending on local government regulations. Los Angeles gyms, for example, are currently closed, but Orange County and New York gyms are open.

Gold's Gym: A representative from East Northport, NY told Newsweek that it would be open during regular hours on Veterans Day, but as Gold's Gym is franchised this may change from location to location. It's best to call your local location before you visit.

Orangetheory Fitness: A representative from Orangetheory Fitness in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, told Newsweek the gym would be open on Veterans Day as normal, however, opening hours may change throughout the country as each gym is individually owned.

Snap Fitness: All the Snap Fitness facilities are open 24-hours a day and seven days a week, aside from Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. A representative from Glenwood Park, Atlanta, confirmed their branch would be open on Veterans Day.

Anytime Fitness: This member access 24-hours gym will be open at usual. Staff at the Congress St, Portland, Maine branch advised Newsweek that those looking for membership or day passes on Veterans Day should book ahead of time as staff availability will be reduced.

Zumba Fitness co-founder and CEO: This is the biggest mistake business owners make – CNBC

According to Alberto Perlman, co-founder and CEO of Zumba Fitness, the "biggest mistake" entrepreneurs make is thinking they "know more than their customer," he tells CNBC Make It.

Perlman has spent nearly two decades building Zumba's global brand (in 2012, The New York Times reported Zumba was valued at $500 million after Insight Venture Partners and the Raine Group invested in the company). And throughout, he has listened to and used customer feedback as a tool to further its success.

"You have to always be listening, and listening between the lines, to your customer," Perlman says.

When customers share what they're "frustrated with, struggling with, and what they love" about a business, owners should use the feedback to their advantage, he says.

"You can start connecting dots, and that's how you create and solve their problem," because to be successful in business, entrepreneurs must be good at problem solving, Perlman says. "It's about falling in love with the problem that you're trying to solve, finding a solution for it and being passionate about it."

Perlman himself is "constantly" learning from and listening to customer feedback, he says, which has helped Zumba over the years.

For example, Zumba, originally a dance workout, launched Strong Nation, a high intensity interval training (HIIT) program, in 2016 after customers expressed interest in the HIIT trend.

"We saw that a lot of people wanted to do HIIT training," Perlman said. As a result, "Strong Nation [has] been growing like a weed."

Listening to customers also helped Zumba thrive amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The fitness industry was one of the hardest hit due to the coronavirus' spread. Fitness clubs forced to close faced $10 billion in revenue lost as customers cancelled their memberships and at least 500,000 employees were furloughed, according to a survey by investment bankHarrison Co. conducted in April.

Like gyms and other exercise brands, Zumba pivoted once stay-at-home orders were mandated. While Zumba is typically licensed and used by gyms for in-person, group classes, Perlman and his team launched an online platform for customers to take virtual Zumba classes with trainers.

Almost every week since its launch, "we keep updating it [with] new features" based on customer and trainer feedback, Perlman says, which is "driving more people to the instructor's classes." As a result, "instructors generate more income, reach more people and have more students," despite the pandemic woes. Perlman declined to give any revenue numbers.

Perlman is not alone in extoling the importance of what customers have to say Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon has built his company around it.

In 1994, Bezos started Amazon as an online bookstore, but shifted to become "the everything store" after he emailed 1,000 random customers asking for feedback.

"Much of what we build at Amazon Web Services is based onlisteningto customers," Bezos wrote in his 2018 letter to shareholders. "It's critical to ask customers what they want, listen carefully to their answers, and figure out a plan to provide it thoughtfully and quickly."

That year, Bezos also said he continues to read customer complaint emails and forwards them to his executives to prompt adjustment.

"Customers cannot tell you what to do, but they can tell you what they're frustrated with," Perlman says.

Americans Focus on Fitness & Health as the Peloton Craze Sweeps Nation – The Jewish Voice

Im a city girlin normal times walking makes up most of my exercise and being too busy to cook keeps me skinny. I incorporate small things like always taking the stairs so I dont have to do the BIG things like join a gym. No offense to every who seems to actually enjoy working out, but that is just not me. Being trapped in my very small NYC apartment due to COVID-19 quarantine has forced me to put effort into making fitness a deliberate and thoughtful part of my new normal. I am a naturally social person and more than a little competitive, so I knew it was gonna have to something pretty special to make me remain motivated and committed. My roommates mentioned chipping in together for a Peloton, and once I did my research and took my first spin, I was hooked.

Peloton, for the uninitiated, is, according to their website, the immersive cardio you cant get enough of. It may appear to be the same exercise bike that your grandma had in her bedroom but never seemed to use but it is a lifestyle. Ive always envied that my girlfriends always seemed so pumped when they would meet up after a spin class. They would talk about how much the classes cost but it was so worth it. They would brag about scoring a bike in their favorite class and setting their alarms to make sure their didnt miss signing up. As much as I admired their enthusiasm and glow, it seemed a bit high stress and the opposite of fun.

My mom had been nagging me to try and stay healthy while stuck at home and I mentioned to her that my roommates wanted to buy a Peloton. I told her that the money Im saving by not taking the subway right now could more than pay for it and she made me see I couldnt say no. Ordering it was super-fast and easy. The website does warn right now that delivery may take a bit longer right now as everyone is ordering it. The price right now is $1,895 is the lowest ever and there are options to sign up for your monthly subscription to save even more. Delivery and set up is no problem, even for someone with no technical skills.

With space at a premium and storage nonexistent, Im impressed with how awesome it is to look at and how little space it requires!

The biggest challenge is making time to take classes with all the different instructors. It is so inspiring to be guided in my journey by professionals who genuinely love what they do. I was a germaphobe well before the virus so being able to do this all in the comfort and safety of my own home makes all the difference for me. I was the type of kid who would do anything in grade school for a sticker. Watching my stats increase is almost an even bigger reward than all the energy and strength I feel. I am completely in love with it and cant wait to come out of quarantine look and feeling better than ever.
