Kaiser Permanente physician, Ann Wells, MD, shares information about the disease and some of the simple steps those living with diabetes can take to maintain and improve their health. "It #39;s skipping that late evening snack, or, when you go out to eat, only eat half of what #39;s on your plate and bring the rest home for a meal the next day," she continues. Dr. Wells enjoys partnering with the members for whom she cares to help them live a long, healthy lives. Mexican Turbo Snail (Turbo fluctuosa) – Video

Mexican Turbo Snail (Turbo fluctuosa)
The Turbo Snail is extremely popular among reef hobbyists, since it quickly eliminates large amounts of nuisance algae. It is particularly fond of hair algae and will consume mass quantities of it and other algae off your live rock and aquarium glass. Also known as the Turban or Top Shell Snail, Turbo fluctuosa has a thick, top- or turban-shaped shell with an irridescent interior. The Turbo Snail is native to the Gulf of California off the coast of Mexico. An excellent member of your aquarium #39;s cleanup crew, the Turbo Snail thrives in crevices and holes in natural reefs. In the home aquarium, the Turbo Snail needs ample hiding places and large spaces to graze. Some reef aquarists prefer to keep the Turbo Snail in aquariums with well-secured rockwork since this active herbivore is known to bulldoze loose rocks in search of food. The peaceful Turbo Snail should not be kept with aggressive tankmates that can quickly overcome this slow-moving creature. If algae levels are insufficient, supplement the diet of the Turbo Snail with dried seaweed. Also, adequate calcium levels are required to help this member of the Turbinidae family build its protective shell. Like other invertebrates, the Turbo Snails is very sensitive to copper-based medications and high nitrate levels. To acclimate the Turbo Snail, employ the drip-acclimation method since it is intolerant of even the smallest fluctuations in water parameters. From:Marcel KlipViews:1 0ratingsTime:01:37More inNews Politics

Organik Life - Do What You Want
Just a small rant reiterating the motto i live my life by, and also share with others - IT IS NOT NECESSARILY THE BAD THINGS CAUSING POOR HEALTH, IT IS THE LACK OF GOOD THINGS. I will never tell you NOT to do something, but what I will do, is share and promote positive lifestyle habits you can pick up on that will help you become a healthier individual. You dont have to cut anything out of your life, or go on a strict restriction type diet. The least we can do is start adding nutritious foods into our lives to combat the daily toxins we take in. The more good you put in, the less time you have for the bad! From:Andrew WestViews:0 0ratingsTime:01:39More inEducation

The Dangers of Aspartame – Video

The Dangers of Aspartame
Melissa Melton files a special report on a new gum that promises to "save the earth". As few as one diet soda daily may increase the risk for leukemia in men and women, and for multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma in men, according to new results from the longest-ever running study on aspartame as a carcinogen in humans. Importantly, this is the most comprehensive, long-term study ever completed on this topic, so it holds more weight than other past studies which appeared to show no risk. And disturbingly, it may also open the door for further similar findings on other cancers in future studies. http://www.infowars.com [Sources for this article include] http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov ORDER THIS SURVIVAL DVD AND START GETTING PREPARED TODAY AT... http://www.infowarsshop.com Joel Skousen sits down with Alex Jones and discusses strategies on how to prepare for and survive major disasters. http://www.infowars.com http://www.prisonplanet.tv twitter.com http://www.facebook.com [Join The Alex Jones Team and Start Getting Healthy Today!] http://www.infowarsteam.com Get all your Youngevity Products such as Beyond Tangy Tangerine, the Alex Pack and Pollen Burst. Starchy diet, colon cancer returning link

Published: Nov. 9, 2012 at 5:06 PM

BOSTON, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Colon cancer survivors who eat a lot of sugary and high-carbohydrate food have a higher risk of the cancer coming back, U.S. researchers say.

Lead author Dr. Jeffrey Meyerhardt of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and colleagues found in a previous study those with a typical "Western" diet -- high intake of meat, fat, refined grains and sugary desserts -- were three times more likely to have a cancer recurrence than those whose diets were least Western.

The study was conducted to explore which component of the Western diet was most responsible for the increased risk of colon cancer recurrence.

The study involved 1,011 stage III colon cancer patients who had undergone surgery and participated in a National Cancer Institute-sponsored Cancer and Leukemia Group B clinical trial of follow-up chemotherapy for their disease.

Participants reported their dietary intake during and six months after the trial.

Researchers tracked the patients' total carbohydrates, as well as their glycemic index -- a measure of how quickly blood sugar levels rise after eating a particular food -- and glycemic load, which takes into account the amount of a carbohydrate actually consumed, and looked for a statistical connection between these measures and the recurrence of colon cancer.

The study, published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, found the study participants with the highest dietary levels of glycemic load and carbohydrate intake had an 80 percent increased risk of colon cancer recurrence or death compared with those who had the lowest levels. Among patients who were overweight or obese the increase was even greater, the study said.

Eating for Two? What a Healthy Pregnancy Diet Looks Like

With the emotional roller coaster that pregnancy brings, it can be daunting for pregnant women to take on the additional pressure of eating the "perfect" pregnancy diet. The good news: There is no single perfect diet for pregnancy. The best way for expectant mothers to meet their nutritional needs is to focus on consuming an overall healthy diet, with a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean meats or meat substitutes, and low-fat dairy or dairy substitutes.

Here's a sample meal plan for moms-to-be, one that meets their needs for all of the food groups and provides about 2,000 calories:

Breakfast: 1 cup of regular oatmeal cooked with skim milk rather than water; add in 1/2 cup of frozen unsweetened raspberries, 1 ounce of chopped walnuts (about 14 nuts), and a drizzle of honey for sweetness. Enjoy a decaf latte made with skim or soy milk.

Provides: 2 ounces of whole grains, 1/2 cup of fresh fruit, 1 3/4 cups low-fat dairy, and 2 ounces of protein. With this breakfast, Mom will get plenty of fiber to help prevent pregnancy constipation and hemorrhoids, as well as protein, calcium, and potassium.

Morning snack: 1/2 cup of pineapple chunks with 1/2 cup of low-fat cottage cheese.

Provides: 1/2 cup of fresh fruit and 1/4 cup of dairy. Pineapple offers vitamin C as well as the trace mineral manganese, while cottage cheese gives a great boost of protein.

Lunch: A bowl of lentil soup with about five whole-grain crackers; a whole-wheat pita filled with low-fat cream cheese and tomato and cucumber slices; and 1/2 cup of frozen yogurt for dessert.

Provides: 1 1/4 cups vegetables, 3 ounces of whole grains, and 1/2 cup of dairy. Legumes like lentils are great for pregnant women because they deliver a dose of fiber as well as protein. The frozen yogurt will satisfy a sweet tooth, while also supplying some more calcium.

Afternoon snack: Hummus with jicama and carrot slices.

Provides: 1 1/4 cups vegetables. Hummus is a great alternative to meat, as it's considered a complete protein. The veggies provide a source of water, helping with hydration, as well as vitamin A.

Texans’ Foster not afraid to cheat on vegan diet

Arian Fosters diet drew a lot of attention in the preseason when he announced he was a vegan. ( Karen Warren / Houston Chronicle )

Arian Fosters diet drew a lot of attention in the preseason when he announced he was a vegan.

While Foster avoids meat mostly, he gives himself breaks.

Im not in a cult, Foster said. Nothings going to happen to me. I just wanted a piece of chicken. It wasnt like temptation. I felt like I could use one.

The discussion of his diet resurfaced Thursday in regard to the high number of carries hes had this year. Foster leads the NFL with 192 carries this season. While his carries have increased, Fosters catches have decreased.

He said comparing how his body feels this year to how it felt in years past is difficult because of different variables.

Ive been dabbling back and forth, Foster said on his diet. I just like to eat healthy. The whole vegan thing, a lot of people are really interested in my food. Ive had meat since I said I dont eat meat anymore, but I like to stay with the plant-based foods, but every now and then, Ill eat something.
