Middle in the Malcolm: Turnbull's tips to trimness

How do you tell someone they're fat?

A noticeably slimmer Malcolm Turnbull has told reporters his recent weight loss is thanks to less greed.

The former opposition leader took a question on the weight issue at his first doorstop of the current Parliamentary sitting - called to attack the government's plan to buy two new satellites for delivering broadband services in remote Australia.

Chuckling at a question on his new figure, Mr Turnbull told reporters his weight loss secret "may seem like a penetrating glimpse of the obvious, but it is an insight that most of us ignore because it is too painful".

"The way to lose weight is to eat less, so I ate a lot less for a month and lost a lot of weight pretty quickly."

Malcolm Turnbull says he is 14 kilos lighter thanks to the change.

"I certainly do feel full of energy," he said, while emphasising how simple his approach had been.

"Being less greedy I suppose than I used to."

In an interview published earlier this week, Mr Turnbull told The Global Mail he had also been to a Chinese herbalist and taken herbs over the month in which he fasted.

"I must say that I found the fast extremely informative because it made me realise I am in control of my own body and can control my appetite. It is a very good insight."
