MLB sign-stealing saga has now seen buzzer allegations, players weighing in, and more – The Comeback

The MLB sign-stealing saga that started with the Houston Astros and has now led to the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets parting ways with managers Alex Cora and Carlos Beltran (over actions taken while with the Astros, but MLB is also looking into accusations the Red Sox stole signs) took some further twists Thursday. On the media side, ESPN analyst and Mets adviser Jessica Mendoza took a lot of flak for her criticisms (across ESPN properties) of former Astros pitcher Mike Fiers whistleblowing on this saga, and on the team side, the Mets announced they were parting ways with Beltran. But on the players side, things really heated up when it came to accusations of the Astros going beyond the infamous trash can and also using buzzers under batters jerseys to tip pitches to them. Those accusations really took flight when Jimmy Jomboy OBrien passed along a tweet supposedly from Beltrans niece and said it lined up with what hed heard elsewhere:

The Beltran family has disputed that the @S0_blessed1 account is anyone related to them (they havent yet weighed in on the other questionable seemingly-Beltran-linked account), and Gary Sheffield Jr., son of prominent former MLB player Gary Sheffield, stated that its another player:

Meanwhile, David Brosius, son of U.S. national baseball team manager Scott Brosius, weighed in on this further on Reddit with allegations that his dad knew of the Astros cheating in 2017 (and, also, that Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout takes HGH):

And a whole lot of current players weighed in on the cheating allegations as well:

And some specifically discussed Jose Altuves home run to win the decisive Game Six of the 2019 American League Championship Series (hes seen after that above), after which he told Foxs Ken Rosenthal that he didnt want teammates to tear off his jersey because he was too shy, also claiming that the last time his jersey was torn off, I got in trouble with my wife:

So, this is all a fun pile of stuff for MLB to deal with. But hey, at least they and their players have made it into the national conversation. Even, if like the last time they made major national headlines, its not exactly the way they wanted.

Richard Sherman thinks the NFL hit him with drug tests because he played so well – For The Win

The NFL had a gift waiting for Richard Sherman following the San Francisco 49ers dominant win over the Minnesota Vikings in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday.

Sherman shared on social media that the NFL hit him with two drug tests: one for performance-enhancing drugs and one for HGH. Hahahaha ball out and get the double dip. PED and HGH tests. hahaha gotta love it , Sherman wrote in the tweet Saturday night.

The tests followed a game when he managed an interception while shutting down a number of different Vikings receivers. After the game, Sherman made it known that the thought he was still the best cornerback in football. In this game, he played like one of the NFLs best.

When a few fans responded to Shermans tweet, he shared a few more thoughts on the drug tests. He explained he didnt like giving blood mostly because I dont know where its going.

Sherman and the 49ers will advance to the NFC championship, which will take place in San Francisco. Theyll play either the Green Bay Packers or the Seattle Seahawks, who play on Sunday.Itll be yet another chance for Sherman to put together a performance worthy of an NFLs drug test.

Rockies radio voice Jerry Schemmel laid off and a bonkers day in MLB – Purple Row

Thursday was probably the craziest day in the baseball newscycle the offseason has ever seen. It was all very hard to keep up with and, trust me, well get there. But first, there is some Rockies-specific news to cover first.

In a day that was, and this is a scientific term, bonkers across baseball, the most consequential news for the Rockies was that one of the voices many of us associate with Rockies baseball will not be returning next year. Jerry Schemmel was let go from his position at KOA radio thanks to iHeartMedia going through some massive job cuts. Patrick Saunders has quotes from Schemmel, manager Bud Black, and Trevor Story which all amount to the same thing: losing Jerry is a big blow.

Schemmel's partner Jack Corrigan did confirm that KOA will be sticking with a two-man booth for the upcoming year, which puts KOA on a tight timeline with spring training around the corner.

Personally, I want to thank Jerry for the time he gave me during my trips into the press box at Coors Field but even more for being a familiar voice of comfort for me over the last 10 years of listening to the Rockies, evenand perhaps especiallywhen the baseball wasnt much of a comfort. Good luck and God bless on the rest of your endeavours.

One of the bright sides of the newscycle getting dominated by more consequential manners in the league is that we got a break from the never-ending Nolan Arenado trade rumors. Well, kinda, since this article got posted on Wednesday. Well have more on the article next week, but it gives us a decent starting point for what an Arenado trade would entail and, while Mike Petriello-as-Jeff-Bridich pulled the trigger on one of these deals, Im personally inclined to say Im a little underwhelmed by each of the proposals but Ill let you be the judge.

Now, onto the wider MLB news. I hope youve had your coffee because this gets a little crazy, so well start with the simplest and perhaps most historic news from Thursday.

New Giants manager Gabe Kapler is rounding out his coaching staff for next year and Alyssa Nakken will be joining it. After the Yankees named Rachel Balkovec a minor league hitting coach a few months ago, the Giants become the first team to hire a woman to serve on the coaching staff at the major league level. MLB rules restrict the dugout to seven uniformed coaches and, considering she will be one of 13 and her role hasnt been fully detailed at this juncture, Nakken probably wont be one of them. Still, it truly is a historic day that got lost in all the bluster that followed.

After the Red Sox unceremoniously parted ways with World Series winning manager Alex Cora on Wednesday, the writing was on the wall for Beltran. MLBs report on the Astros Sign Stealing Scandal (I hope theres a better acronym out there than that) unveiled Cora and Beltran as two of the leaders of the scheme, though penalties didnt fall on them directly. Still, with Cora implicated in another cheating scandal with the 2018 Red Sox whose investigation was still ongoing, it seemed like Cora leaving the team was the smart thing to do.

The Mets-Beltran situation was a little trickier, because he wasnt involved in anything attached to the Mets like Cora did. Still, it seemed like an odd choice to keep him around with all the controversy swirling so they parted ways. For those keeping score at home, thats three managers and one general manager who have lost their jobs due to this scandal.

Things only escalated from there. Shortly after the Beltran news came through, a user on Twitter spoke up. This user had the Beltran-to-the-Mets and Beltran-from-the-Mets news before anyone else, so it seems to be at least somewhat legit. The user, claiming to be Carlos Beltrans niece, accused the Astros of further malfeasances including the use of a buzzer inside the jersey to relay stolen signs (this person also pointed fingers at some prominent Yankees so this twisty tale seems to not be going away anytime soon).

The evidence is pretty damning if you only look to Altuves walk off home run in the 2019 ALCS. As hes coming to the plate, he motions to players not to tear of his jersey. Then, during the celebration, hes seen going into the dugout to change. Afterwards, he gave this explanation to Ken Rosenthal.

Uh, huh. Yep, Shy and stuff. I believe it.

The day turned into some Zapruder-level video investigation but MLB came out and said their investigation into the Astros included the 2019 season and they found no evidence of wrongdoing outside of what was named in the report. But this seems hardly a comfort when behind the scenes people across the baseball were fuming about these punishments because there seemed to be way more happening than MLB was letting on.

Oh, and none of this includes Jessica Mendoza, an analyst on ESPNs Sunday Night Baseball and a consultant to the Mets, going on the radio this morning and lamenting the actions of Mike Fiers, the former-Astro who effectively blew the lid off the trash can. Or the son of a former-MLB player and coach getting on Instagram and implying that more than just the Astros are doing some shady sign-stealing and, oh by the way, Mike Trout is on HGH. Sometimes, a meme is all you need.

So, how was your Thursday?

Virus season and holidays affected emergency waiting times at HGH – The Review Newspaper

If you headed to the emergency department at the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) over the holidays and felt that you had a long wait, it was likely the case for several reasons.

Wait times over the holidays are extremely long everywhere, said HGH Chief of Staff, Dr. Julie Maranda.

There are various reasons for those longer wait times, according to Dr. Maranda. One is that the holiday season generally coincides with the peak season for colds, influenza, and gastro-intestinal viruses. Doctors offices are usually closed, or open for reduced hours over the holidays, which makes it more difficult for patients to get medical attention that way, so they go to the emergency department instead. More personnel are also away on vacation during the holiday season, which also leaves hospitals short of staff.

Dr. Maranda explained that the Physician Initial Assessment (PIA) formula the hospital uses to measure the amount of time it takes a patient to see a doctor from the time they arrive at the hospital is normally two to three hours at HGH but was four to six hours during the holidays.

Every patient who enters the emergency department is triaged. Those with more serious issues are attended to first.

The patients waiting in the emergency room are still our patients, said Dr. Maranda.

She said that the triage nurses routinely check the waiting area to see if patients conditions have changed and should be re-prioritized.

HGH Interim Chief Nursing Executive and Clinical Director of Inpatient Services Julie Milks said it is important that patients know that the triage nurse is checking the waiting area.

Milks and Dr. Maranda said that patients from Qubec using the Hawkesbury hospital are not a factor in causing longer waiting times. Half of the emergency patients in Hawkesbury are usually from Qubec and the hospital ensures that the department is staffed and budgeted according to the volume of patients regardless of which province they live in.

Dr. Maranda said having more medical offices and walk-in clinics open over the holidays would help reduce the number of people using emergency departments, but she noted that what people perceive as an emergency differs from person-to-person.

A cough in one person is not the same as with another person, she said.

HGH has been making efforts in the past three to four months to reduce emergency waiting times. Dr. Maranda said the ED Intensive Task Forces efforts have led to at least a 50 per cent reduction in the time patients are waiting.

In order to reduce the wait times, the task force identified times when the department is generally busier, and more staff were added at those times. When conditions warrant, extra staff are called so that patients can be attended to more quickly.

Milks said the average wait time has gone from 7.4 hours to six. She added that the emergency department at HGH also has two physician assistants and a nurse practitioner was recently hired.

Another measure that Dr. Maranda explained HGH uses that many other hospitals do not use is a set of directives that allows emergency department nurses to order certain tests for patients in order to help the system move more quickly.

The efforts to further reduce emergency wait times will be ongoing. Milks said that will ensure HGH is better prepared for future peak viral seasons. She also said that any complaints they receive are taken seriously and are investigated.

Jarrell Miller teased to feature on Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder II undercard as Big Baby nears return to – talkSPORT.com

Jarrell Miller looks set to make a comeback on the undercard of one of the biggest fights in recent memory: Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder II.

The American heavyweight has not fought since failing three drugs tests ahead of his bout with Anthony Joshua last June, with the 31-year-old dropped from the card.

Getty

As well as missing out on millions and suffering serious damage to his reputation, he was given a six-month ban by the WBA.

Miller is now on the comeback trail, however, and his co-promoter, Dmitriy Salita, has strongly hinted the boxer is about to sign with Top Rank and return in Las Vegas on February 22.

Salita told FightHype: We are looking to line up Jarrell with a major deal, and something is going to be announced in the very near future in the coming days.

I feel Jarrell is one of the best heavyweights in the world. I feel he has the skills to beat Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua; I feel he would have beaten Joshua on June 1.

Im very excited about what is going to happen in the coming days for him.

When quizzed on the Top Rank rumours, Salita replied: That is fair speculation.

If all goes well, he may be fighting on the card of the biggest heavyweight fight of the year, and maybe of many, many years.

Miller, who tested positive for GW1516, HGH and EPO, never received a proper ban due to a bizarre loophole in the US system, and the WBA punishment did not prevent him from fighting.

Nonetheless, the 22-0-1 orthodox, nicknamed Big Baby, hasnt been in the ring since beating Bogdan Dinu in November 2018.

Top Rank, Jarrell Miller verbally agreed to terms on multi-fight deal – Bad Left Hook

It took a bit longer than expected, but the Jarrell Miller-Top Rank partnership appears to be imminent. Mike Coppinger reports that the two have verbally agreed to terms on a multi-fight promotional deal that will see the heavyweight contender compete exclusively on ESPN platforms. adding some much-needed depths to Top Ranks infamously shallow 201+ pool.

If/when Miller (23-0-1, 20 KO) graces the Worldwide Leader in Sports, it will be for the first time since his November 2018 knockout of Bogdan Dinu, He was slated to welcome Anthony Joshua to the States on June 1st, 2019 and had built the mutual resentment to a zesty simmer before failing drug tests for, well, everything. For your amusement, I released the second article when the HGH news broke, only for the next test to be revealed and force Scott to come in and edit my freshly posted article to inform you all that Miller had done even more drugs than we thought.

Signing this guy to a multi-fight deal sounds iffy, both from the ethical perspective of brushing aside his wrongdoing and the practical perspective of banking on someone whos already flushed heaps of marketing capital down the drain, but Bob and co. are kinda desperate. They spent a ton on Tyson Fury without having anyone for him to fight, leaving the

champ to fight the likes of Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin between cracks at free agent Deontay Wilder. Fury and Wilder are already booked for their sequel (February 22nd) and threequel, though, so I expect Miller versus Wallin on ESPN+ sometime in the middle of the year.

Want your kids to grow tall? Feed them with these foods – Pulse Nigeria

It is essential to give children the right kind of food to support their growth and promote healthy height gain. Two hormones contribute to the height of a child. Human Growth Hormone (HGH) and Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) determines longitudinal bone growth and maintain bone mass. Hence, it may be helpful to consume foods that not only stimulate the production of the growth hormone but also aid bone growth.

Some children suffer from stunted growth because of their body system lack the nutrients that will boost their growth hormones. This article will show you the foods that would aid your child's growth.

1. Eggs

iStock

Studies have shown that malnourished children who were fed with a high-protein diet over a period developed more height compared to those who were fed with standard protein. Eggs are incredible sources of protein, riboflavin, biotin, and iron. Protein helps in cell growth and development. Egg white is a concentrated source of protein. Make sure to include eggs almost every day in your childs meal.

2. Green leafy vegetables

Green leafy vegetables not only give your kids strength but also supply a good amount of calcium. The calcium in leafy vegetables balances bone resorption (breaking down of tissue in the bone to release minerals) and building of tissue in the bone by deposition of minerals, which varies according to age . Vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, kale, and spinach would supply the nutrients needed for growth.

3. Fruits

Fruits are not often associated with minerals, but some fruits contain an adequate amount of calcium and other minerals required for the healthy growth of the bones. Make it a habit to give your child 1-2 servings of fruit daily. You can also add them to cereals to make them colorful and tasty. Examples of fruits with calcium content are oranges, apricots, kiwi, and pineapple.

4. Dairy and dairy products

Milk (dairy) contains calcium and protein, which aid the growth of bones and also develop strength. Whole milk has more nutrients than the skimmed versions. Dairy products like cheese, yogurt, curd, and cottage cheese are abundant in calcium and vitamins, which are important for bone mineralization in children. Get your kids to drink milk every day or make dishes that are filled with the goodness of milk.

5. Beans

Beans are excellent sources of protein but have a limiting amount of amino acids. Most beans contain a good amount of calcium, which is essential for a growing child.

6. Whole grains

Whole grains are rich in vitamin B, magnesium, selenium, zinc, and iron and contain a small amount of calcium. All these minerals are essential for bone growth and mineralization. You can give your kids whole-grain bread and pasta as well as cereals.

7. Soybean

Ambergris today

Soybeans are rich in proteins. While they are likely to be useful in improving optimal bone health, the mechanisms are still not clear. You can create many yummy dishes with soybeans that your kids will relish. A few examples of soybean products are soy flour, soy chunks, tofu, and soy milk.

Is There Now An Opportunity In Heartland Group Holdings Limited (NZSE:HGH)? – Simply Wall St

Heartland Group Holdings Limited (NZSE:HGH), operating in the financial services industry based in New Zealand, saw a double-digit share price rise of over 10% in the past couple of months on the NZSE. With many analysts covering the stock, we may expect any price-sensitive announcements have already been factored into the stocks share price. However, could the stock still be trading at a relatively cheap price? Lets examine Heartland Group Holdingss valuation and outlook in more detail to determine if theres still a bargain opportunity.

See our latest analysis for Heartland Group Holdings

According to my valuation model, Heartland Group Holdings seems to be fairly priced at around 0.43% above my intrinsic value, which means if you buy Heartland Group Holdings today, youd be paying a relatively fair price for it. And if you believe the companys true value is NZ$1.84, then there isnt really any room for the share price grow beyond what its currently trading. Furthermore, Heartland Group Holdingss low beta implies that the stock is less volatile than the wider market.

Investors looking for growth in their portfolio may want to consider the prospects of a company before buying its shares. Although value investors would argue that its the intrinsic value relative to the price that matter the most, a more compelling investment thesis would be high growth potential at a cheap price. With profit expected to grow by 48% over the next couple of years, the future seems bright for Heartland Group Holdings. It looks like higher cash flow is on the cards for the stock, which should feed into a higher share valuation.

Are you a shareholder? HGHs optimistic future growth appears to have been factored into the current share price, with shares trading around its fair value. Have these factors changed since the last time you looked at the stock? Will you have enough confidence to invest in the company should the price drop below its fair value?

Are you a potential investor? If youve been keeping tabs on HGH, now may not be the most advantageous time to buy, given it is trading around its fair value. However, the positive outlook is encouraging for the company, which means its worth further examining other factors such as the strength of its balance sheet, in order to take advantage of the next price drop.

Le’Veon Bell once again hints he will refuse HGH tests after another randomly selected notice from the NFL – CBS Sports

New York Jets running back Le'Veon Bell was once again randomly selected by the NFL to complete an HGH blood test, and he is less than thrilled about it. Back in November, after receiving this same notice five times in 10 weeks he said he would no longer be complying with the tests.

Now we will know for sure if he meant what he said when he informed the NFL via tweet that he will not be doing another test because he was randomly selected once again.

On Friday, he posted the note from the NFL with the caption, "@NFL I bet I don't," suggesting once again that he would not be participating in the mandatory tests.

Refusing to take the test could result in a suspension, and In 2016, a similar situationoccurredwhen he missed multiple tests and was suspended as a result.

His November tweet read:

"[I have] had five 'random' [Human Growth Hormone] blood test in 10 weeks, NFL, I'm not doing another after today. Whatever y'all looking for -- it obviously ain't there. And I'm not about to keep allowing y'all to stick me with those dirty ass needles. Find the players who really do that H.G.H. b.s. and get off me."

Bell told reporters on Friday, "At the end of the day, if we have to cross that bridge when we get there, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. I'm saying right now, the way I feel today, when that tweet went out, that's how I feel."

The note seen in Bell's tweet not only said "immediately" but highlighted it as well. No word on if the 27-year-old reported for the tests.

Bell is certainly no stranger to missing games over something he believes in, so a suspension may not scare him enough to force him to take the tests. Back in 2018, he left a lot of money on the table when he sat out the entire season over contract negotiations with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
