Exercise to be conducted March 19 through 24

Groton- Exercise Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield 2012 will be conducted at the Naval Submarine Base, as well as naval bases and installations throughout the continental United States, March 19 to 24. The security training exercises are regularly scheduled and designed to enhance readiness of naval security forces to respond to threats to installations and units. The two exercises will occur simultaneously and stress different areas of the Navy's anti-terrorism program by simulating real-world threats. Cmdr. Mike Pennington, executive officer of the base, said the training is valuable because it helps realistically test programs and procedures. "Recent headlines continue to show that those who would do us harm are highly innovative and adaptive," Pennington said. Scenarios range from recognizing and countering base surveillance operations to higher-tempo simulated emergencies, such as a small boat attack on a waterfront base or an active shooter in a public area or building. Local residents may see increased traffic around the base and see increased security activity associated with the exercise. Also, from March 22 to 24, as part of the exercise, the base may increase its force protection condition and limit access.

Oliver to help Victorians fight flab

Jamie Oliver will unveil the Minister of Food Victoria today in partnership with the Government. Source: Herald Sun

UPDATE: JAMIE Oliver is bringing his crusade against obesity to Victoria.

The celebrity chef will unveil the Ministry of Food Victoria today in a partnership with the Government. The first centre will open in Geelong this year.

The Ministry of Food will be the centrepiece of a world-first program in which the Baillieu Government will saturate 14 communities - including the most overweight, unhealthy and disadvantaged - with eating and exercise programs.

It will include shopping and cooking lessons, walking groups, canteen and cafe overhauls.

A mobile kitchen will travel between the 14 communities identified as part of the Government's Victorian Healthy Eating Enterprise.

Premier Ted Baillieu said the Government was prepared to work with Oliver because of his high profile and message.

Jamie Oliver has been on this crusade, this campaign, internationally, Mr Baillieu said.

Its a good thing, and if we can help use him to help sell the message about healthy eating, healthy diet and healthy lifestyle, then I think its a good thing.

I think its very important for all Victorians to recognise that there is good value in having a healthy diet, good value in having a healthy lifestyle and exercising.

Excellon announces initial drill results and exercise of its option on Beschefer Project, Quebec

Toronto Stock Exchange - EXN

TORONTO , March 5, 2012 /CNW/ - Excellon Resources Inc. (TSX:EXN.TO - News) ("Excellon" or "the Company") Mexico's highest grade silver producer, is pleased to report it has fully exercised its option to acquire the "Beschefer" property, located in northwestern Quebec , as well as initial drill results from its 2012 winter drill campaign. Drilling highlights on the project include the interception of 4.54 grams per tonne (gpt) gold over 7.80 metres (m) including 9.16 gpt gold over 1.35m and 27.3 gpt gold over 0.30m in drill hole BE12-006.

Drill Program: Diamond drilling at the Company's Beschefer Project, located 12 km east of the past-producing Selbaie Mine and 60km north-east of the Casa Berardi Mine, commenced in January. As of March 1, 2012 , 5,284m in 17 holes have been drilled of a planned 8,000m program at Beschefer. The Company completed a 1,520m drill program in March 2011. Results of that program included the interception of 3.80 gpt gold over 4.35m including 13.85 gpt gold over 0.30m in hole BE11-001 and 12.4gpt gold over 3.78m in hole BE11-003 including 63.5 gpt gold over 0.43m.

Drilling in this program is focused on expansion of the previously discovered "B-14" Zone, as well as exploration targets elsewhere on the property. Thus far in the program, geological and analytical results are consistent with those encountered in the Company's 2011 drill program and with historical results on the property. Completed assay results for the Company's 2012 drill holes are summarized in the following table:

2012 Drill Program Results Summary:

Note: all gold grades are uncut; intercept lengths may not be representative of true widths

Excellon President Jeremy Wyeth comments, "Excellon continues to be pleased with the geological and operational progress at its Beschefer Project and we optimistically look forward to the continued exploration of the B-14 Zone. Exploration at both of our Canadian properties provides exploration upside to our shareholders and will reposition the Company as a precious metals growth company."

The Company continues to find that the B-14 Zone persists as a moderately dipping shear zone marked by increased sericite and carbonate alteration, quartz veining, and pyrite hosted by mylonite. In late February, Hole-to-Hole Induced Polarization ("IP") surveying was also performed on select deeper holes within the "B-14" Zone, in order to assist in delineation of the zone.

Gold mineralization was discovered in the B-14 Zone in 1995 by Billiton Canada Inc. and since that time and prior to the Company's involvement, has seen limited exploration. Gold mineralization in the B-14 Zone is typical of other shear zone hosted mesothermal gold deposits in that it is hosted within mylonite, highly sheared and altered rock, which also contains increased quartz veining and pyrite.

Completion of Option on Beschefer: On February 15, 2012 , Excellon exercised its option to acquire 100% of the Beschefer property by completing an issuance of shares to property owners in February, who have retained NSR interests on any future commercial mineral production from the property. To date, no mineral resource estimate has been completed for the property, or the B-14 Zone, the only known significant gold mineralized zone on the property.

Temple City proposal banning exercise as punishment loses steam

Temple City Parks and Recreation officials backed away from a proposal that would ban Live Oak Park sports groups from using physical activity, such as running or push-ups, as punishment.

The Parks and Recreation Commission will likely consider a different proposal after hearing from leaders of several youth sports organizations.

"I'm concerned they're gong to be police watchdogs watching over us to see how we're training our kids," said Mike Wintercorn, president of Temple City Amateur Softball Association.

"Running is part of the stretching phase getting ready to play. We don't want them telling us we can't have our kids doing that because it's punishment."

Cathy Burroughs, the city's director of Parks and Recreation, said its difficult to make a determination between activities intended as punishment versus physical conditioning.

The proposal was prompted by a concerned parent. It would have required sports groups to "ensure that participants are not subject to emotional, physical, verbal or sexual abuse, including the use of any form of physical activity as punishment, during the course of any activity on a city facility."

The wording would have been included in agreements for the use of athletic fields by sports groups at the city's Live Oak Park.

Parent and physical education teacher John Lira said he was concerned that allowing kids to be punished for tardiness or for missing a play will discourage them from enjoying

Lira said he took his 6-year-old son out of the Temple City Rams, part of Temple City Youth Football, after he was asked to run three separate times last summer "as punishment" for missing a play, stretching improperly and missing part of a practice.

"My concern is for kids; I want them first and foremost to enjoy physical activity," Lira said. "When kids are running in 100 degree heat, they could get heat exhaustion, heat stroke," Lira said.

Kangoo shoes give kids a jump on fun, fitness

It breaks her heart when she sees overweight children.

It bothers her when she hears kids talking about exercise as if it were a chore.

So Melanie Hendershot is doing something about it.

Im passionate about kids, she said. I want to help them find ways that are fun to be active.

Hendershot, 53, is co-founder of Spanaways Body Fun Fitness. As the little studio approaches its first anniversary in April, she is trying to provide more fitness options for children.

While, like many fitness studios, its classes like Zumba that brings in the most clients, Hendershot is finding that she has a knack for inspiring kids to exercise.

Like a parent who hides vegetables in the kids spaghetti, Hendershot is disguising exercise as something different for children.

She teaches a fitness course called Drums Alive, in which workouts are high-tempo drumming sessions.

But one of her favorite activities is to simply loan the kids a pair of spring-loaded shoes called Kangoo Jumps. The shoes, which have a football-shaped spring underfoot, are designed to reduce the impact of activities like jogging and jumping.

Its like a bouncing feeling, Hendershot said. Its a boing, boing, boing when you run instead of a pound, pound, pound.
