You Can Tell If a Man Will Cheat by the Sound of His Voice, Study Says – Yahoo Lifestyle

There a plenty of red flags that someone is cheating on youthey're secretive with their phone, they've changed their appearance, or they're picking fights with you, to name a few. But there's another factor that's right in front of your faceor earsthat can tell you if a man will cheat before the affair even begins. A new study published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences in September was the first to examine the association between male vocal characteristics and their fidelity. What the researchers found is that men with deeper voices are more likely to cheat on their partners. To make their discovery, the researchers recorded the voices of 116 men and 145 women to gauge their pitch. Then they administered a self-reported questionnaire that asked how likely they were to remain faithful to their partners on a scale from one to seven. There was no strong correlation between female vocal pitches and infidelity. However, the findings showed a strong correlation between deep male voices and the likelihood of cheating.

Researchers hypothesize two reasons for men with deeper voices' proclivity towards cheating. "This result might suggest that masculine voices and infidelity development in men have the same biological basis, that is, they are influenced by testosterone levels," the study authors note.

A 2006 study published by the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that men with more testosterone were more inclined to cheat, which corroborates this theory.

Another probable reason, according to the study, is due to increased access to mates. "Masculine voices among males are significantly associated with long-term health and social dominance and are more likely to be perceived as attaining higher social positions, all of which were valuable for women during evolutionary history," the authors add. "Given that, the relationship between men's vocal characteristics and infidelity intentions is more likely to be mediated by increased access to women."
