‘Training was tough’ – Fitness fanatic Hannah made a big splash to shed the stones – Stoke-on-Trent Live

Activity co-ordinator Hannah Guthrie has lost more than five stone through healthy eating and exercise which included a two-mile open water swim across Lake Windemere.

The 29-year-old who works at the Friends for Leisure charity was determined to shed the weight before her 30th birthday.

But her dream was made even more difficult as she suffers with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Hannah said: My PCOS symptoms can make things like weight loss loss and maintaining weight quite difficult.

I want to raise awareness of this and show people that it is still possible to do a journey like this and lose weight, even if you do have PCOS.

Over the last three years, Hannah has steadily lost 5st 6lbs with 4st 3lbs of that being achieved following the Slimming World plan.

She originally followed it independently from home, but then decided she wanted the support of a weekly group and consultant to keep her on track.

She added: It has been a slow process over the last three years, but Id rather do that than lose it really quickly. It means that I have been able to maintain it and keep the weight off.

I had done so well in the past and lost two stone. This time, I decided to put more of a focus on my exericse.

I was referred to the NHS One You programme and was given a one year gym membership to get me started. I think my group was the first One You group in Cheshire East. I started to really enjoy exercise and found new ways to keep it interesting and exciting. My partner is really into the gym too so we did things together.

I also did longer, more interesting dog walks and really enjoyed bodypump and Clubbercise classes.

I also did a two mile open water swim across Lake Windermere. Training was tough because it was freezing but on the day it was 22 degrees, so it was quite nice.

For her diet, Hannah, from Congleton, followed the Slimming World plan. It was something that worked for her and she loved the support of a group.

She said: Sometimes I do have to shoot off and go to work, so I will get weighed and just go. But I know that the support is there if I need it.

People there are so supportive. Anyone who is considering joining Slimming World, I would say definitely go for it. Nobody cares how big you are everyone is there for their own reason.

And despite her weight loss success, Hannah is still attending her Slimming World group and carrying on with her journey.

She explained: Because Im quite tall (6ft) my BMI says that I am technically still overweight. So Im carrying on and want to lose maybe another stone.

Anyone who wants to lose weight, I think you have to prioritise your mental health first and make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons

You also have to be optimistic and dont put yourself down you can do it!
