Man accused of secretly recording in Planet Fitness bathroom – The Oakland Press

A 22-year-old man is jailed pending charges after being arrested on suspicion of video recording someone at the Plantet Fitness on Lapeer Road.

Oakland County sheriff's deputies from Orion Township were called at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, to the Planet Fitness with a report of a man who was seen photographing another person in an adjacent bathroom stall.

"The victim stated that he observed the responsible place his cellphone with the camera facing him under the stall while he went to the bathroom," the sheriff's office reported. "The victim confronted the perpetrator and alerted the police. Deputies arrived on scene and secured the cellphone the suspect and placed him under arrest."

Taken to the sheriff's substation, the suspect, a Sterling Heights man, was interviewed by a detective. Additional electronic devices were seized, along with the iPhone allegedly used at the gym.

The sheriff's office said they determined the man had attempted the recording of the other person, a 18-year-old Orion Township man, with the intent of sexual gratification.

"Detectives learned other incidents similar in nature may have occurred," the sheriff's office reported. "Evidence collected is being forensically analyzed to determine the extent of these crimes and which locations."

The suspect was taken to the Oakland County Jail as detectives sought criminal charges from the county prosecutor's office.
