Get Rec Fit offering community fitness in Swansea – Fall River Herald News

SWANSEA Getting healthy in Swansea has become a whole lot easier with a new fitness program. And its offerings may rival those in some local studios.

Recreation Commission clerk Christeen Cestodio created the Get Rec Fit program from the ground up to give those aged 18 to 60 a new affordable exercise venue.

The classes have been amazing, Cestodio said. The instructors have been amazing.

Cestodio said the program, offered in a wide open space at the Community Center, 260 Ocean Grove Ave., will create healthier people and get people out there into the community.

The winter schedule that runs until March 28 offers classes every day except Tuesday.

Classes range from zumba to yoga and boot camp to line dancing.

It kind of started before I came, but it was very limited classes, Cestodio said. This is my first season running it.

Instructors include Christine Antunes, Karen Torres, Shaun Gadbois, Allison Sprague, Carol Ann Souza, Stephanie Miller, Jessica Williams and Diane Sinclair.

Cestodio said she wanted to add offerings for adults because there was a gap in that area, with activities mainly offered to children and senior citizens.

She contacted local fitness instructors and crafted the program that offers 18 classes each week, with some in the mornings and others in the late afternoon and evening for adults who work during the day.

I got lucky, Cestodio said.

Keeping the classes affordable was important to Cestodio, and the commission.

The drop-in price is $5. Get Rec Fit class passes are available at five for $25, 10 for $40, 20 for $60 and 30 for $80. Classes are open to residents of Swansea and other local communities.

Cestodio said she is still expanding the program and would like to offer yoga at the Town Beach this summer.

Other programs for adults include crochet and mens basketball. The Recreation Commission also offers a youth summer program.
