How to lose weight in 6 months like this guy who lost 32 kgs by following an easy cardio routine – GQ India – What a man’s got to do

When it comes to the best weight loss plans a cardio routine comprising running, cycling and ground exercises is probably the most underrated fitness regime. Cardio exercises do not just aid fat loss but also strengthen your immune system and boost your mood. 18-year-old Raj Krishnan H tells us that following a dedicated cardio routine and a clean diet plan helped him trim from 115 kgs to 83 kgs in just six months and also helped inculcate better eating habits.

Growing up, my body was always inclined towards favouring the heavier side of the weighing scale. In fact, at one point, I couldnt even find clothes in my size (the correct size) and preference. It started making me feel very miserable about myself and also my life. I stopped hanging out with my friends as Id be too busy wallowing over this all the time," he says. "But, after I completed my high school graduation, I was done with this feeling and decided to turn over a new leaf, starting by losing weight and eating healthier, he adds before revealing his weight loss plan.

I started off slow by changing my lifestyle. I enrolled myself in a gym and started waking up earlier as well. I also changed my eating habits by substituting all the junk food in my life with the below clean diet plan.

Breakfast: A cup of green tea and a bowl of oats with some almonds and dates

Lunch: A combination of broccoli and leafy vegetables along with 100 gms of grilled chicken

Dinner: Salads/soups, etc

Through the day, Id also munch on an apple along with egg whites. I also curbed all forms of sugar from my diet.

QUICK READ: This is how eating eggs daily will help you lose weight without compromising on flavour

Initially, I focused only on a cardio routine to decrease my body's fat percentage. A combination of the below cardio routine and the above diet plan helped me lose 32 kgs in 5-6 months. And right now, I am gearing up to commence a new weight training routine to switch things up and build abs."

I went to the gym almost everyday of the week except on Sundays. My cardio routine comprised: 20 minutes of running, 20 minutes of cycling and 25 minutes of step ups along with ground exercises such as push-ups, crunches, free squats and sit ups, etc. I used to do 100 push-ups, 160 sit ups and 100 crunches everyday after my cardio.

QUICK READ: The best cardio machine for every type of workout

Presently, I weigh 83 kgs and am looking forward to trimming my body to a healthy target goal of 72 kgs via weight training. But, the one thing that I can tell you about weight maintenance is that if you are consistent and focused on your fitness goals, youll be able to maintain your weight easily.

Have a goal. Eat healthy and stay healthy thats it!

Single polished white rice can safely be included in weight loss diet, as far as you practice portion control. Khichdi, which is made from dal and rice, is a protein-rich meal with a complete amino acid profile. Suran or jimikand is great for people who carry extra weight along their waist line. Being bigger on the stomach can be because of unpredictable digestion or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Green coffee for weight loss: Does it really help you burn belly fat? – Times Now

Green Coffee for Weight Loss: Can green coffee help you lose belly fat?  |  Photo Credit: Getty Images

New Delhi: Losing weight has become a major goal for a lot of people trying to improve health or get leaner. But weight loss can be a long process, hence, many are turning to all sorts of supplements in order to speed up the process. Green coffee is one of them, perhaps, its increasingly gaining popularity amongst fitness enthusiasts.

Green coffee bean extract, promoted by American celebrity physician and talk-show host Dr Oz, is one of the most popular weight loss supplements on the market. Basically, green coffee beans are coffee beans that have not yet been roasted. These coffee beans contain higher levels of chlorogenic acid than regular, roasted coffee beans. It is claimed that the substance, chlorogenic acid, may offer health benefits other than helping you lose weight.

Chlorogenic acid, the main ingredient in green coffee beans, is thought to affecthow the body processes metabolism and blood sugar. Studies in animals (mice and rats) showed that the compound can help reduce body weight, as well as decrease fat absorbed from the diet. Chlorogenic acid may also help reduce fat stored in the liver and improve the function of adiponectin, the fat-burning hormone. Several studies suggested that caffeine can increase metabolism by up to 3-11 per cent.

Moreover, some controlled trials in humans showed that green coffee bean extract can aid weight loss. For instance, one randomised controlled trial involving 30 overweight individuals found that those who took instant coffee with green coffee bean extract lost more weight (about 5.4 kg) than those drinking plain instant coffee (1.7 kg).

However, more research is required since most human studies examining the effectiveness of green coffee beans for weight loss remain inconclusive. Additionally, green coffee may have other health benefits. It may help lower, blood pressure, reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

The fact is that theres no scientific evidence to determine an appropriate range of dosage for green coffee - both in children and adults. So, its best to follow the instructions on product labels or consult a physician or healthcare provider before using it. Yet, one serving (30 minutes before meal) is a common recommendation.

Green coffee bean extract appears to be safe when used appropriately - up to 480 mg daily in doses for about 12 weeks, as per WebMD. But since these coffee beans contain caffeine, it can cause numerous side effects when consumed in large doses - such as anxiety, rapid heartbeat, jitteriness, etc. Hence, people who are sensitive to caffeine should use it with caution. Additionally, pregnant or breastfeeding women and children are advised to avoidgreen coffee as it may not be safe for them.

Weight loss: I lost 8st to renew my wedding vows and now I look like Mr Incredible – The Sun

TIPPING the scales at a staggering 21 stone, Olly Hewitt knew something in his life desperately needed to change.

The photographer's weight had spiralled out of control after years of gorging on takeaways - and he hated being the one on the other side of the camera.

7

Olly, from Barwell, Leicestershire, felt like "King Kong" when he married his "beautiful blonde" wife Michelle - who was well over half his size.

Determined to turn his life around and renew his vows to his Michelle in a body he was proud of, Olly overhauled his diet and started hitting the gym.

Now eight stone lighter and with a ripped six pack, the dad-of-two is totally unrecognisable and says his kids call him "Mr Incredible".

And Olly has credited his wife for helping him to kick-start his impressive weight loss journey.

7

7

He told Leicestershire Live: "Shes amazing - I absolutely adore her. Whenever I have doubted myself in anything, shes always got so much belief in me.

"Even when I think I cant do something, she says I can.

"She says Im capable of anything if I put my mind to it."

Olly admits he had always struggled with his weight, ever since he was at school.

And while he was battling body confidence issues, he met Michelle as a teenager when they were studying computer administration in Leicester in 2000.

7

Olly said: "I was massively conscious of my weight at the beginning.

"I was just this fat little kid, I managed to pull this beautiful blonde. I was like King Kong. I was well punching above my weight.

"I was forever grateful for her spending time with me. She obviously saw something in me that I didn't see."

Their relationship blossomed and in 2007 they got married at Barnsdale Hall Hotel, exactly seven years after their first kiss.

I was just this fat little kid, I managed to pull this beautiful blonde. I was like King Kong. I was well punching above my weight

Despite this, Olly was still unhappy with his weight, and Michelle challenged him to do something about it.

"I started my weight loss journey because I never liked my photo being taken in public," he said.

"My wife said that you cant moan about being fat, either accept it or try to lose weight.

"I wanted to go swimming with the kids. I wouldnt go out, on holidays I wouldnt take my top off.

"I thought it was no good."

7

This was the turning point for Olly, who decided to ditch the ready meals and starting pumping iron, to improve his health for the sake of his two children, Emily, nine, and Leo, seven.

He slowly started going to the gym more and more - and now works out an impressive six days a week.

Olly has since dropped eight stone, and achieved an incredible 5.4 per cent body fat, down from over 50 per cent - and is happier than he has ever been.

His efforts were rewarded when he came second in the Male Muscle Model class after training for five years to shed the pounds.

7

And to top it off, he subsequently won the Body Transformation category at the Pure Elite contest.

It was then he decided to get down on one knee again to his wife on the beach in Margate - to renew his commitment to his "amazing" wife.

The couple, who have been together for almost 20 years, will renew their vows next year - 13 years to the day since they tied the knot.

Asked what the secret to a happy marriage is, Olly said to "agree with the wife".

Enjoy the holiday feast; unless you’re a wrestler cutting weight – Post Register

RIRIE Mashed potatoes and gravy are the enemy. The smell of fresh pie wafting through the air is torture.

Welcome to the world of a wrestler at Thanksgiving.

For wrestlers who have to cut weight, the holiday season can be cruel.

I wish Thanksgiving was after wrestling season, Ririe junior Tye Sherwood said following a practice this week.

Cutting weight is part of the wrestling culture. Some would argue its the hardest part.

Today as families gather around the table to give thanks and offer blessings, wrestlers will suffer in silence as food gets passed around. Its not just any food, either. Mostly its the fattening kind, the good stuff that those not cutting weight will consume with delight. And then go back for a second helping.

It does stink that wrestling season is right at the two best holidays for food, Ririe coach Chris Harris said.

Suffering and torture might be overstating what wrestlers go through. Most wrestlers have learned how to handle their diets and fitness and are prepared to enjoy the holidays as best they can.

I can eat turkey, drink water, no soda, Sherwood said. Green beans are good Jell-O for dessert.

I dont worry about it too much, Ririe junior Gabe Sommers said. Coach told us to just enjoy the holidays and be smart.

Harris noted that the Idaho High School Activities Association has guidelines for weight loss and monitors wrestlers progress when they cut weight.

The days of trying to drop 15 pounds two weeks before the season are long gone.

Harris said that some of his wrestlers keep track of their weight all year, not just during the season. Some, like Sommers, have a regimented workout they do every day.

Sommers is one of the lucky ones. He hasnt had to worry about cutting weight and has even tried to gain weight at times.

Its hard to watch them, honestly, he said of his teammates who are obsessed with the scale and monitor every pound. I bring a lunch box to the tournaments and I try not to eat in front of them.

Ririe must be doing something right. The Bulldogs won their fifth straight 2A state title last season, joining Teton as the only Idaho wrestling program to ever win five state titles in a row. Sommers is a returning state champion at 195 pounds, as is Stetson Machen at 113.

Machen, a senior, will wrestle at 120 this season and is in the process of losing eight pounds to make weight before the season opens next week. He has a couple more pounds to go.

The biggest thing around the holidays is making sure you dont put on so many calories that youre not going to be able to get them off, he said, noting that his family has a wrestling background, so everyone knows how much discipline it takes to make weight and eventually become a champion wrestler.

The main thing is trying to drink a lot, he said. That keeps your body from craving so much food. It keeps your stomach full.

Smaller portions are always helpful, he said. Knowing what to eat and what not to eat on Thanksgiving is crucial.

Desserts will kill you and make you feel weighed down when you come back to practice, Machen said.

Making the right choices can be have long-term results.

You kind of think about how hard you have to work in practice the next week (to lose weight). Youre thinking If I dont eat this now, maybe Ill be able to eat an extra granola bar the day before the meet. Its a tradeoff.

Sometimes experience helps. Sherwood said he cut 10 pounds as a freshman, but would gorge himself after tournaments and was miserable afterword. Thats no longer a problem.

Harris said wrestlers will get the weekend off during Thanksgiving. Theyre responsible for how they handle their meals.

Some kids dont understand that if you take your time and do it right, you dont have to suffer, Harris said.

As the holidays approach and the season gets underway, there is one thing that all wrestlers agree on.

Stay away from the mashed potatoes, Machen said.

Add a BURST of fitness to your holiday regimen – Buffalo News

The University at Buffalo Center for Successful Aging recommends considering a BURST approach to fitness for the holidays.

Avoid injury because it can reverse months of gains.

Listen to your body. When something doesnt feel right, stop.

Get help when lifting heavy objects.

Build in rest days.

Know risks of your fitness and have a plan if something goes wrong.

Push past your comfort zone. Rating of Perceived Exertion can help. This is a self-rating of intensity based on heart rate, breathing and muscle fatigue during exercise. On a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 representing the hardest effort possible, aim for an intensity of 7 interspersed with lower intensity recovery phases at about 3 or 4.

Aim for behavioral and performance goals instead of body composition goals. For example, I will exercise or meditate, or both, at least 20 minutes each day through the holidays, instead of I will lose weight during the holidays.

Seek small, attainable goals and grow from there. For example, exercise at least once during the first week, then twice the second week; or walk one block the first time out, twice the second and so on.

Combat all-or-nothing thinking. Small gains count and small setbacks are not failures. Stay encouraged.

Track progress. Count steps, keep an exercise journal.

Find a challenge each day. Take the stairs, if its safe for you. Park further from your destination. Pick up the pace during part of your walk.

Variety prevents boredom. Walk the block, or the mall, alternating your pace. Do 5 to 10 squats; if its too easy, hold weights. Try some pushups, even if you have to start by doing wall pushups.

Find a weight you can lift eight to 10 times before getting tired; move up in weight when it becomes easy to lift it 12-15 times.

Add intensity to your typical workout, even if for a few minutes.Get out of the gym. Try rock climbing, dancing, laser tag.

Build in short 3- to 5-minute exercise breaks.

Look for YMCAs, senior centers and other winter recreational pursuits.

Be active together. Social support can help you stay motivated and committed.

Team and group activity improves adherence.

Create an enjoyable environment that supports common goals.

Eating banana skin can help with ‘better sleep and weight loss’ – Sky News

Banana eaters traditionally peel off the skin, chuck it in the bin and then devour the soft yellow fruit inside.

But one dietitian has claimed eating banana peel can improve people's sleep, give them healthier skin and also help with weight loss.

Susie Burrell wrote in her blog Shape Me that eating the peel can increase a person's "overall fibre content by at least 10% as a lot of dietary fibre can be found in the skin of a banana".

The Australian dietitian adds: "You will get almost 20% more Vitamin B6 and almost 20% more Vitamin C and you will boost both your potassium and magnesium intake."

The NHS recommends eating foods high in fibre when trying to lose weight, and Vitamin C is known to help with maintaining healthy skin.

Ms Burrell assures her readers she is not telling them to bite down on the "bright yellow banana skin along with the banana".

She advises people to cook the skin to soften it up and help break some of the cell walls, which in turn will make the nutrients easy to absorb.

Ms Burrell says the skin can be included in recipes for smoothies, baked good and curries.

The dietitian writes that blending the skin into recipes or smoothies is the most practical way to use them, and adds: "Here you will increase the volume and nutritional content of recipes with minimal change to taste and texture of the cooking."

She continues: "For example if you make your smoothie with a whole banana, chop the ends of the skin, chop into small pieces and simply blend with the rest of the smoothie.

"For recipes such as muffins or banana bread, cooking the skin first before mixing it into the recipe is an easy way to incorporate them."

Ms Burrell, who is a brand ambassador for the company Australian Bananas, writes that bananas with bright yellow skins have a higher proportion of antioxidants associated with anti-cancer effects.

She adds that less ripe bananas with green skins are particularly rich in the amino acid tryptophan which is associated with good sleep quality.

Ms Burrell said green banana skins are also rich in resistance starch, the special type of fibre known to benefit gut health.

She writes that this is because green skins are better consumed after boiling in order to soften their skins.

Ms Burrell writes that banana skins also have practical use in day to day life, and says cooking meat on top of them will help boost the moisture content of any meal.

She also adds that they are great for making vinegar.
